I have started playing the violin again after 15 years but cant bring my self to play in front of people yet to scratchy and forgoten a fair bit when was 10 won 2 cups in birmingham music festival and 12 went on tour to germany playing the bach double with my dad then gave it up as a teenager .i dont regret i took the path i did doing forestry and now i can enjoy it as a hobby as it was becoming a chore when gave it up.

  7. cheers mate was a cracking field maple it was on ,have always been interested to know what had been associated with them and you found it.forgot to show you in the wood near the ancient ash you pollarded the biggest horse chestnut we got with decayed lower limbs from dryads saddle that have broken and layered acting like stilts ,looking forward to later in the year when you work on the beech with the hericium:thumbup1:
  8. i was amazed at the amount of decay in the limb that the crack went up to that you had to cut back hard but a least it had a healthy epicomic to reduce to

  12. cheers Big j, i take my time trying not to stop cutting so get my mate to put the wedges in as i go and keep the dust and dirt brushed away as i run it along when milling something a bit special, thanks everyone for the comments:thumbup1:

  14. Thought i would share these pics of a beautiful bit of burred field maple i milled something you wont see every day .It was probly the chosen wood that was used before birds eye maple (sugar maple) was available.i hope to use it when it is dry to make some slab furniture

  16. our keeper is keen for us to carry out the thinning/coppicing work he understands that its the only way to maintain good ground cover and diversity in the long run .and if your sensible with the timing and opperation of machenery in those areas its not a problem.
  17. i liked the film ,me and the mrs went on a tour bus round denali national park and the tour guide said the bus he stayed in was only a few miles from the road and was a wire cable across the river not far from wear he was if only he found it:thumbdown
