  1. always got as many as i wanted for free.
  2. u1200 unimog with a tp 200 chipper. narrower than a narrow thing, loads of gears so you can reverse up a mountain. No more snaking about with toe behind chippers. side tip, no more taking off the chipper. if you think the chipbox is to small get a 1250.
  3. sorry mate, i couldnt understand a word you were saying. it must be your funny accent:001_tongue:
  4. I think the mistake is on your part, i have done the same myself. put it down to experience. Although i would phone them and tell them the reasons why it wasnt done today, you never know they might pay you. Explain that this time you wont charge them but in the future you will, To someone sitting in an office, a tree is a tree. I used to rehearse all the possibilities in my head about the conversation, get myself really worked up and stressed. But it was just my own anxiety. They have obviously chosen you as the contractor for good reason. Pick up the phone and make the call. Even if you dont get the 140, you will feel a lot better mate. take it from me. You dont want to go to bed tonight worrying about it or being angry, that only leeds to stress and depression. I have been there.
  5. a scottish pussy:001_smile:
  6. file the rakeres well down and bore into a tree. good vibrations my friend:001_tongue:
  7. last one, then i better go out with missus for the night.
  8. hopefully this works:001_smile:
  9. i have been inspired by you guys, only had camera phone with me.
  10. 'kumba' checking out the fungi today
  11. hi guys, things seem a bit slow tonight so i thought i would start this thread to see if i could get things going. i have been off for 2 weeks now with bad back hence the 200 posts in that time, but the old spine is better and i have a job that needs finishing tomorrow, and i would like the cheque in the bank before christmas. i have a big scots pine to deadwood with a silky, so that will be nice but before that i have a big beech to dismantle. the top has blown out this about 30 yrs ago at about 30 feet. there is a monster limb that grows about 30 odd foot over a sandstone wall into an old lawn, but the pain in the arse bit is the highest i can get my rope above this limb is about 10 foot. so i have either got to 'tree lizard' my way out or take a deep breath and thump it off with a razor sharp 046, guess what way i am going to do it. i will inform you 2moro how the wall is. what you guys up to tomorrow?
  12. look at it this way. if you told us you are hitting your right hand with a hammer that is in your left and it is really sore, the obvious thing would be to stop hitting it. if you then said i have to because if i stop i cant pay the bills. swap the hammer into the other hand and keep going till that gets really sore and alternate doing this until you find a solution to the problem.ie get someone else to share the workload or cut back. i am not trying to be smart or sarcy, but this job is sore on the body. as i talk to you now i am sitting on a giant bouncy ball to keep my posture straight, not shorten my hamstrings, and try and work on some core stability.everything that has been said is on the right track. but you have to think of the future and look after your body mate.
  13. its a typical coppice bit of wood by the looks of it. there are bound to be local folk with open fires, landrovers and strong backs. these folk usually like a bit of shooting, so they know what will attract the deer.get the old barter system going. even make a small woodland sindicate. its only a pain getting wood out bacause you are using a barrow. someone will have a small tractor or quad. it is a nice oppertunity, but i wouldnt bust a gut yourself. not unless they gave the land to you. i would get down the local pub and see who is interested. someone will have woodland knowledge. gamekeepers, gardeners.
  14. ice is good,or peas. anything really cold. i can lend you my wifes shoulder. she is still being funny after finding my nigella thread.
  15. thats the one i have got, but i prefer blue.
  16. fell the lot and start again, it looks like it has been coppiced. firewood i say:001_smile:
  17. although he couldnt feel the pain, he was also still doing damage. his job was feeding the big chipper. he went on doctors advice, he was scared he would do more damage. that is where we got the term'hell boys right arm'
  18. if you use a top handle. throw it away. rest is the only thing that will really help. if it is a tubey grip you are using throw that away as well you get a strap that goes round your arm on the meaty bit a couple of inches below the elbow, or as you now know it as the really sore tender bit. the strap puts the pressure on that bit and lets the remaining few inches heal. but take care, one of my lads had to get a cortizone injection. he cant feel a thing but couldnt do tree work again. avoid feeding big chippers. if you struggle to get the right strap pm your address and i will give you my one.stevie
  19. going low is good when you are working 90 degrees with the lean, even when the hinge goes to pot the butresses hold on that little bit longer and rip into the ground, i learnt the similar way but it was to my advantage. i would of went higher on that beech just out of lazyness mate. but you are all right, wiser and as the old guy said no one got hurt. i remember doing a masive oak when i first started. it had a massive lean, it was my first shot of an 88. was so excited i just came horsing in from the back, ye haa. barbers chair about 20 feet up. shxt myself. lucky i was at the side. we call it "nippy arse" when you are doing big fells. the amount of times i have bolted because the tree made a noise, but never moved. better safe than sorry i say. well done mate
