  1. I have a beautiful new son,an amazing other son, a great wife and mum to my kids, my life outwith work is so good, i am bored out my head with my job, so i keep buying kit to satisfy that gap. It lasts for a while then wears out. All i used to do is work, i never new what a private life was. But it pays the bills, and puts food on the table. those wee tractors are cool though.
  2. what are you looking at buying?
  3. I think all tools and machinery are excellent, but everything has its limitations. I use big kit for big stuff and small kit for small stuff. If you dont have the right kit then you compromise. I spend a lot of time sharpening saws for customers and friends, and everytime i pick up one of these small saws i laugh at how light they are, i keep meaning to buy one for light jobs. Even the electric saws, are cool. beats a bow saw any day. i think it all comes down to personal preferences.
  4. could you stick up some pics mate, that would be cool.
  5. Where the haggis rome free, men are still men and the sheep are really nervous:001_tongue:
  6. I think it will always be an alternative, in my experience the immaculate well run farm that makes good money isnt interested in chip, but the farm that tips all its crap over the banking infront of the house cant get enough of it. as long as its free. I think there must be an issue with the fungi as well, but i know the chickens love it. For a quick fix to soak up the sloppy mud its great, but what do you do with it once you are finished with it, dung and straw can be spread on the fields because it breaks down quick.
  7. sorry mate, i think i am a bit far away from you. but you have the right attitude, and sound keen to learn. So many guys just want to swing about trees straight away, then they get a fright and are scared to go back up. Logging up trunks in a yard is how i started with a saw. You soon learn its all about looking after your saw. And keeping your wits about you with kick back. Sorry i cant help you but someone here soon will.
  8. i have never tipped in council yards, always found places for chip, alotments, horse arenas, garden centres ets. The hedgecuttings i uesd to stolk pile then shred with ducker. But i think its about 38 quid a ton, some places wont charge if they have a good recycling unit. But i am going to stockpile chip now for buzz.i would pm him.
  9. Do you wish to buy this unimog?
  10. Hi guys, does anyone here have an alpine tractor. Looking for input and advice, i have always went for the biggest thing i could afford but i really fancy one of these wee tractors. I would love one of the articulated ones with the back body. I was out in Italy this year(Barga)and firewood is there way of life, i couldnt believe where these tractors had been going.
  11. mog 38k, 4k for the winch(it is remote controlled) and 8k for the chipper. If i wanted to give it away i could, but i am not going to. The mog has a very high spec, and is minted. Chipper has done nothing for its age. If you want something tarted up with hamerite for half the price, go and see mr atkinson.
  12. Climbig a 10 foot birch will look way to dodgy to some bi standers, i think this guy is just in a league of his own. I dont think he is into doing anything for a shortcut, look at his other work, strapping a tree with dozens of straps, some of his jobs must take days if not weeks just to co ordinate. That takes patience and a lot of skill. I have felled a lot of big trees and done a lot of ballsy stuff, i bet most of us have. But i sit with my jaw on my lap watching his work.
  13. Go on the logpile website, see if there is any one close to you selling logs, i would think at 30quid a load sconed up they would bite your hand off. I know what you mean about turning them into logs and delivering, its a ball buster. especially if you are busy with the surge.
  14. Alexs site is spot on, i was holding off sticking my mog on his old site because it was never updated, but i will stick it on that for sure.
  15. Hi stevie here, sent you a message asking where you stay, now i know. Do you mean hospitals and surgerys. Used to do loads of work around the paisy:001_smile: hospital and all round glasgow years ago for another company. The boss told them what he recommended, if the price was right, then job done. I even felled the wrong tree. Monster beech in a tpo in Newton Mearns. All the staff and locals went bonkers. Then i felled the right one and the boss got paid for both because my one was in a worse condition. He never complained. Good contact, loads of work all over the city.
  16. Stihl 026, bullit proof wee saw. I like the 13" bar because it is good and fast, but 15"no bother for firewood. Look after it and it will last for years mate.
  17. Nice Beavers mate, is that a hiab/crane on the trucks?
  18. Hey Martin, i live in Largs.

    Where are you based?

  19. she sure is, dont want to sell her but i hardly use her since i have down sized my working range and staff. Roofmount and huge trailer wins hands down just now, love a trailer like skyhucks though. If i get mog sold that could be next years toy. How is NZ, i backpacked there 9 yrs ago with the kiwi experience. cant wait to return with the kids. I have family in Rotarua and the Bay of Islands, and Queenstown.
  20. Good luck mate, keep us posted on how you are going. This kind of advice is priceless, so we want to get your own input as your experience builds.
  21. Good luck mate, i wish you and your mrs all the best and look forward to reading your thread when the time comes.
  22. Well done mate, it only gets better, any plans for when the big day is. My missus had ours organised within 5 weeks. My advice from now on would be to do as you are told.
  23. I know i shouldnt be on this thread but when you are on cloud nine. what the hell. my wife was the first and so far only lady to have a child 2day in scotland, he is amazing. He looks like he has been here for weeks, met santa, my other sons face when he got his first bike, my wife on the radio and going to be in the local papers, making my big brother cry(shrek himself) by naming my new boy after him. then i had my first christmas meal at my parents home for 15 yrs, 3 quilted lumberjack shirts WITH POCKETS, a seal skin waterproof bunnit(thats a hat my southern friends) and i have still got more to open. If this is heaven i am there. Oh and me and the dogs are about to fire up the outdoor logburner and burn the chrimbo wrapping with a magners. MERRY CHRISTMAS:001_tt1:
  24. Messed that up, trying to upload pics. here he is:001_smile:
  25. here is the boy, with his big brother Alexander Iain, and his awesome mum, Vicky Oh and Santa with his helpers. I should change my user name to "BIG CHEESY GRIN"
