  1. From his feedback he's sold saws and Stihl parts in the past. Maybe it was his business or he worked for a dealer.
  2. Thought about an offer then realised I'd be better applying to Chipperfields
  3. Yes. Even pest spp are protected. I think it has to be an H&S issue with the tree that allows disturbance of any nesting birds. One of the reasons we now avoid conifers from March to Sept. The pigeons ain't too bad but can never see the greenfinches nest till it's too late.
  4. Ease yourself back into work slowly mate. It takes so long to get it right you don't want to *!!* it all up! Mine hasn't flared up for a year now.
  5. Whingin' bs. Try them on the wet scrapings up of a crack willow.
  6. I'm guessing it took about 1 1/2 hours and would probably take about an hour for a normal reduction. Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to the next one now:001_smile:
  7. An oak I coronet reduced (is that the correct term?). The LA wanted us to fell it due to a few small structural defects in the crown. I persuaded the TO to let me loose with the 200t. Tree is on a walkway through a housing estate. No complaints from the public and LA are happy so hoping for more.
  8. Couple of pics of FBs on a horse chestnut we are to fell. I have the one down as Pleurotus spp and no idea on the other. Maybe no idea of either

    Stuntfell

I'd do it and that's my excuse in case I get fat.
  10. You need a winch to move them.
  11. When the shear pins on the Tirfor are in pieces the Trewhella is just getting warmed up. Just have to remember that if it takes 3 men to put the pressure on then make sure you use 3 men to take the pressure off! That handle will take your head off.
  12. Some nice effects with Ustulina
  13. Wondered if anyone has ever used one of these? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1AIFN9lais]YouTube - Norwood Industries SkidMate - Tree Felling Jack - Log Skidding Arch - MultiMate[/ame]
  14. That bar has grease holes. Can't remember if they have them now:confused1: Maybe that sprocket was designed to be greased.
  15. Could be rings. Oil passing the piston and fouling up. These type of engines are really easy to strip and take a peek at. Make sure it's not electrical before to save unnecessary work.
  16. Another scenario. Possibly valve guide seal worn allowing oil to drain past the valve. Plug fouls up = running on one cylinder. When it does run on both cylinders does it smoke?
  17. British car auctions at Measham and Brightwells at Leominster.
  18. An industry in decline now we all drink wine from screw top bottles. A shame because the 'dehesa' pasture woodland of Spain is the most fantastic place I've ever been
  19. The truffle woodland idea really appeals to me. I can't afford to do this on my own but I know a guy with the land and money and it appeals to him also. I've read that one of the most successful plantations in the UK was established on farmland that was probably free of any mycorrhizae due to a history of fungicide application on previous crops. So would the eradication of competing fungi help? Seems severe to me. Also it seems that spores are spread by foraging animals ingesting the truffle and dropping it out the other end. I think the market price for UK truffles tops at about £400 per kilo.
  20. Anyone have any experience of this? I've read snippets and seen most of the stuff on the web but wondered whether if any first hand experience is out there.
  21. All sounds good. What would be the procedure if you're leaving a live stump? Would you need to kill it and would this have any adverse effects on colonization by your chosen fungi?
  22. Says Jensen to me. Selling due to ill health. The guy says he sorry to see it go. Who knows his personal circumstances? We are all but a short step away from this.
  23. 6k for this elm wine rack!
