  1. Some good looking woodwork there, not enough 6" nails though:001_tt2:
  2. I was a bit disapointed the last time i went to Wisemans wood, It is starting to suffer from too many people and sheep. There is a much better wood on the south part of the moor just below Black tor; Black tor copse. It is about a 4 mile hike from the nearest road, but it has good atmosphere/ spooky when the mist is low. It has some of the best boulder/ moss/ tree/ lichen/ bryophyte combination on the planet.
  3. I thought that tractor looks familiar. How are things still busy

    Murray

  4. 'I'm a lumberjack and i'm ok, i cut down trees, i wear high heels, and hang around in bars ........... etc. etc.
  5. When i used to help with the harvest, part of the payment was in cider, needless i did not get much done in the afternoon for the first couple of days.
  6. you should have a chat with Adam Cumine who is one of the directors of Greenlinks, he has been dealing with similar problem to you for a few years now. Cuckoo Woods Community Woodland Project
  7. That sounds like carple tunnel syndrome, as it matches the discription that a good friend gave before he went into hospital. it was only a quick op and he was back on the saw in six weeks. Sting your hands regularly with nettles, natures finest natural anti inflamitory. It had helped reduce my symptoms of carple tunnel syndrome
  8. Its shiney, so it is going to be expensive.
  9. If i can manage to work it out and i drink cider (the proper stuff not that fizzy stuff with ice), then you should have no trouble.
  10. This should make a few people happy, NOT. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0404/1224293734241.html
  11. The BTCV woodlands book has a good section on green woodworking, or consult the bible (Green woodworking by Mike Abbot, the grumpy man of the woods).
  12. You are just teasing us now, go on don't be shy show us you clip
  13. Good man, don't let the buggers ................. (I will let you add what ever you like)
  14. Fair play Jon, you are nothing but consistant. I still have to read your post a couple of times to work out what you are saying. Are you sure that you have not been drinking Mr Rich's finest.
  15. Get on the mailing list of you local auction houses, as they will have machinery from time to time, also keep an eye out in the local paper for farm auctions.
  16. If you mean chainsaw protection, then 'chainsaw gloves' provide almost non excistant protection. Which chainsaw gloves are currently under review as essential protection. You would do better to worry about HAV as that will definatly have a long term adverse effect on your health. Any good leather glove will help to reduce the amount of vibration you recieve, or if it is wet the rubber gripper glove.
  17. Try (pie*d2)/40000*L Works for me
  18. Lets hope the horseshoe mark remains for a long time. Ditto everybody else
  19. I will let you know what it burns like this winter, as i have just prunned one, and the customer did not want the wood.
  20. I am using these at the moment, and have proved to be very hard wearing. Cuttermutter is also a fellow arbtalker. Cutter Work Gloves - Home
  21. That county looks to be in far to good condition to be working in the wood, i can not even see any rust
  22. I am getting £15 per cube for forest grown poplar at the moment, which is borderline on viability. It is going straight into a chipper for cattle bedding. I could not give it away to firewood merchants. As above
  23. He could have had the deciency to mess it up and send it though the house.
  24. Plums and cherries should be pruned after they have flowered, Wimbledon fortnight is normally when i do mine. On thing to remember with apple tree, is to check whether it is a tip bearer. not many variaties are, but i have inadvertantly pruned all the fruit spurs of one tree many years ago, needless to say the customer was not not happy the following couple of years when when the tree produced no fruit
