  1. ‘Only reason for sale is we are upgrading’…. 🤔
  2. I think people were falling out of trees because of poor anchor point choices, epi regen on rail trees etc. Adding a second rope means they can make twice as many poor anchor point choices. 👍
  3. I’d be looking at two things Helene. 1) What are the ‘targets’ ie what would the tree hit if catastrophic failure WERE to occur near the base? 2) Are there any fruiting bodies (Fungi) visible on the tree, especially near the base, at any time of year?
  4. No, Sugoi still in the lineup. Just thought the cross guard might mean you could go properly mental with it, and the coarse teeth might help the OP, you’re not worried about nice finish of cut. Personally I’d get a battery saw and make handsaw noises when I was working. Otherwise I’d end up with a right forearm like @Joe Newton.
  5. I’d go Sugowaza, even bigger than the Ibuki. Silky Sugowaza curved pruning saw (X-Large teeth) (420mm) – F.R. Jones & Son WWW.FRJONESANDSON.CO.UK
  6. Clutchy makes some very valid points, and is almost certainly right on the way forward IF you want to grow. That’s not what everyone wants though, is it? I’ve been Ltd., VAT registered, big turnover, blah blah blah. It’s not for me any more. I’m a one man and two dog band and it suits me now. I work with a bunch of like-minded Sole Traders. I’m having Monday off to look after my kids, most of the following week to head up to Northumberland to spend time with Mam. No hassles about finding work for a crew of employees. I’m not chasing big money. If you are, why are you in arb? There is more to life, much more. I agree some ‘companies’ (however you define it) will be in for hard times. Being mega busy isn’t an excuse to buy loads of shit you don’t need and employ extra crews by my way of thinking. Just refusing shit jobs, charging decent money (which I know you do btw Clutchy), and being honest about lead times is the way forward for me. My work model definitely won’t work for everyone, different strokes for different folks and all that. Some companies will go under, for sure, big and small. Knee jerk price cutting will probably be the quickest way of doing it, rather than genuine lack of work. Chalara may well be the silver bullet that means arb can weather the storm better than some trades. Some arb ‘companies’ need kicking into touch anyway. We’ve done about 6 trees this week that were ‘too big’ for other companies. One of them was knocking on 55’!
  7. That’s how I used to roll! I bet you did as well Mick!
  8. I would have had a line in the tree as well to be extra safe.
  9. I trust you had two ropes in the picks as they were lifted out?
  10. Obviously the 2 aren’t mutually exclusive RC….
  11. Knowing Steve it will mean he can swap attachments without leaving the cab!
  12. You also don’t need ‘permission’ to fell in a CA. I would maybe advise your client to replant, but where he chooses, not the TO.
  13. That’s good advice Alex. You can keep it simple, and cheap, and start learning pretty much straight away. Practice low and slow!
  14. @Rich Rule is a good man to ask. There is a series of training films called The Schultz Effect which are meant to be pretty good.
  15. I’ve gone A on the basis that it’s better than talking about our current crop of politicians.
  16. Slight derail mate, but I never knew those Makita adapters existed until right now! Thanks for the heads-up, that’s the next APF sorted then! Thanks @Ben R for sorting my power issues out last month! Can’t help on laptops, although I see a lot of Lenovos about these days.
  17. @Steve Bullman can you move this to the correct part of the forum please? Not sure where that is, like….
  18. Oh right. So he’s wasted 9 pages of us telling him that when he had access to the info all along? I feel used Doug, used.
