I think if you really made a conscious effort now to NOT buy anything made in China you would struggle to just live your life, never mind run a business. You’re spot on Spindrift, I’m sat in front of my Chinese diesel heater in the workshop at the minute and it’s bloody brilliant! Shame it has come to this, like.

82RC is the best we have found so far for thicker stuff. It’s hard on the gearboxes ragging through inch thick stuff though. Something that would cut through thicker stuff more easily would be a Godsend. You know that point where you just have to switch to mini-topper, loppers and silky. Then the reach becomes an issue.

Weirdly I find the nylon ones outlast the wire mesh ones. I’d stick with the Sordin as well. It looks like you could weld with the Hellberg one.

Back on the tongs theme, it is an interesting concept. Throwlines and ropes simply don’t work on tall skinny conifers like sitka etc. where the sparse skinny lower limbs just snap out with a base tie and you can’t isolate the stem.

Fair enough mate, that’s a lot of hedge. How wide are they at 8’, and how are you sending 80’ heads out without trashing the bottoms? And who’s on the saw at 8’? Not a nice place to be.

That will be the worlds shittest hedge. Fell them and bang in some 4’s which are cheap as chips. In 2 years you’ll have a nice 8’ easily managed hedge.

Little beast isn’t it? That one is about £400. Cheapo versions for £200. 1.5m chain as standard. I reckon you’d need at least 5m, maybe 10, so cost would increase.

You should seriously think about it at that price Dan. You’re a big lad, and that helps on these titchy machines. Plus you’ve got an engineering type brain, which helps. My mate subbed me in today with my WQ, 2 day job smashed out in 1. 4 Transit loads worth of timber stacked for customer. Dragging brash to chipper. Bollard on grab used for rigging. Ball on grab used to move chipper to awkward spots. 15m3 of chip today, 3 of us. They are a game changer. Alex is the man to talk to about Skidster, I’m sure he abuses, sorry, gets the best out of his as much as anyone.
