  1. He’s not British, he’s a Manc.
  2. We don’t know the full story Les, none of us were there. I can guarantee I’ve done jobs for £1k that I should have put £2k on back in the day. Looked a fairly straightforward big day to me, but lack of access pics didn’t help. Glad you got it sorted OP, thanks for following up.
  3. Food IS too cheap mate, but it’s not the producers who want cheap prices? I’m totally with you on the waste thing, it’s an utter disgrace.
  4. That’s a good answer Paul, it’s grown because there is a need for it and it pays. Simple agri-economics. The subsidies thing is a can of worms. Most farmers I know would rather be paid a fair price for what they do in the first place and not need them. It’s a bit more deep than that though.
  5. Apologies for the f word Arbtalk rules fans, I couldn’t find a better substitute to get my point across.
  6. How would you grow forage beet then Paul? Fairy dust?
  7. Well said Matty. Squaredy you are talking like a townie who drives a Prius and thinks they are saving the planet without giving enough thought to where the electricity comes from. Do you have any idea how much diesel a big arable farm gets through in a year? Oh great, they can just all go out and buy a Tesla combine and the price of food will stay the same. Really simplistic, badly thought out post. Just because the government want to fuck everyone over who actually works for a living doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good idea.
  8. That is one time that taking your work home with you would be a good thing. Have a word. You’ll be Employee of the Month in no time.
  9. That’s a shame. I was about to set some shops on fire and steal a TV and some expensive trainers.
  10. Jesus, I didn’t realise they shot him as well.
  11. She was probably within her rights to just shoot him, she shouldn’t have mentioned the Taser, it makes her look incompetent.
  12. Absolutely, there’s no excuse for a mistake of that magnitude.
  13. Some Tasers are quite hand-gun like. Good points about compliance, like.
  14. Rich Rule is the man to ask about this, he has both. Can’t tag him for some reason.
  15. @trigger_andy has just commented on this kind of thing on a different thread. I believe Big J knows his stuff as well, can’t tag him for some reason. Like @Johnsond, I nearly killed myself with whisky when I was a young pup, and can just about tolerate it 3 decades later. I’d quite like to rediscover some nice single malts to enjoy as a sipping drink. Rather than drinking nearly 2 bottles of Grouse at a house party and falling asleep in a bath. Which was quite handy because I spewed and pissed myself.
  16. Not today, Wednesday and Thursday on a dead willow over a moat at a manor house. Prep and fence dismantle and reinstatement took about 3/4 of a day! Von’s new GRCS is a total game changer. Macca dumped a few big bits in the moat which winched out with minimum effort. IMG_4981.MOV
  17. They look great. I really fancy getting one to mount above the fireplace.
  18. I think the general opinion of people on here who haven’t seen the job doesn’t matter a toss. Just take one of the prices you’ve been offered by people who have. Check details of qualifications and insurance (especially for the grind) first, obviously. Eggs has a point, London prices are steeper for a lot of the reasons he mentioned. £2k a day seems steep for a small crew anywhere though. Re the extension, don’t bullshit the structural engineer by pretending the tree was never there, though. That could end up being a massive false economy. Good luck with the job, follow up pics would be good so we can have further arguments. Don’t keep fishing for hundreds of prices once you’ve had a few from decent companies though, life is too short.
  19. Quite a character. RIP HRH Prince Philip. The world won’t be quite the same without you.
  20. I think the relevant government departments like DVSA etc. should be duty bound to HELP you in these situations and talk you through the process. Instead they seem more intent on telling you you are doing it wrong but aren’t exactly sure why. The grey areas exist because their regs are so convoluted. It’s a bloody disgrace, really. We are paying their wages.
