  1. Did you not get soaked matt?weather was damp to say the least over here!Is there a good log in that one?
  2. That's hardwood.Seems to be cheaper up here. Most i think i've heard being charged is £140 for same load.Thinking of up-ing ours to £120 plus vat in new year.
  3. £115.50 including vat for 2.5m3 hardwood or big load double amount, double price. Not the cheapest around here but not the dearest either.Had a few customers go elsewhere but most of them come back!
  4. I put very slim gob halfway up then plenty revs for the top cut directly above gob.Works well for me on branches of same size as those tom.346 or 372 though, never jammed yet!
  5. RBS been good for us matt.We have a business manager unlike the clydesdale and B of S where it was call centre(when phoning answer was @@what is it you do again'').I think it's difficult too avoid the overdraft if you have employees,in a tight spell they still have too be paid!
  6. Good crash and bang again tom.Did the heart miss a beat when you split the large limb there?Did you get to keep the wood,A hit if you did some good stuff there ready to sell.
  7. Always tell the groundy to move his saw before you drop that limb, even although he thinks your going to miss it!
  8. Depends if the rod is damaged,if not i'd do it myself but make sure you get the right seals.Usually you knacker the old gland seals getting them out.Easy enough if you pay attention to how the old ones came out so you can put new ones back in.Always a good idea to empty the ram before you start:001_smile:
  9. Great pics tommer.Looked like a good day for it.Well worth it when you get to the top int it.
  10. Been there done that,OUCH me fingers! She'll be real impressive for ringing up yes!
  11. On a serious note the saw weighs a smidge over 10 KG with no bar. What size bar would you recomend i get for general work 20" maybe? I run a 30'' on the 880 sometimes.But395 has 28'' on all the time, which i use alot on the bigger firewood.28'' would be impressive on yours, presuming that is above minimum length bar,no idea what that is.
  12. Oh yes and been with them since we started.Nuff said:thumbup:
  13. I was in a similar position when i started adbat234 ie insurance it's expensive, but i knew i needed it!So we started the policy,it was hard for a start but the premium comes down as the years go on(provided no claims obviously). And the work increases enough to cover it.I don't think about it now and that's 5 years. Now we are doing work for companies which ask for copies. So no insurance,no work,SIMPLE.

    Ocd customer

Diplomacy and tact at all times me thinks.I Don't mind that sort of customer,i find them a challenge.Usually when they ask you to come back it means they're going to pay i've found.I think you should never show disinterest in follow on work,it's better than no work and you might be glad of it someday.
  15. Swings and roundabouts chaps.880 for me.But my 395 is hard to beat, there you go,i keep an open mind.Keep your 3120,as a few have said if you sell it you'll wish you hadn't.It'll last you for years if it's like my 880 and only comes out the shed once in a while. But it's always there if you need it.I wouldn't like to borrow a big saw and i don't lend mine out.
  16. Or a security light right beside the washing line:sneaky2:
  17. Like i should but never get the time, you not have a go yourself?

    Crampons

Good tip about the rope stevie, cheers.Got the bar thing sussed a while ago. You'll no yourself there's no way on earth you can reach an hold that saw up there to lay it in when the back cut is flush with the ground on the top side.
  19. Perforated fuel pipe or diaphragm probs maybe

    Crampons

Did think of that too, plenty trees above. But kinda like to get away quick when she goes to aviod all the usual falling stuff seeing as it's a thining. Not good trying to leggit on a bank with big saw(without landing on ones backside)

    Crampons

Looked at a big elm job today on a steep banking.Ground very hard so really slippy when wet.Trees are big,did a job like this last summer an it was tricky tryin to keep the feet whilst felling. There was a post on here a while ago about crampons or spikes for this kind of thing.Has anyone used them?are they any good?and where can you get them.
  22. I get a dram from billy connolly every year. One day i might be asked to cut his trees seeing as his holiday house 10mins up the road.
  23. I'm maybe a bit nieve but would that be counter productive if you rocked the boat?ie less tenders came in as a result:confused1:
  24. Good idea, haven't been back in contact with LA guy but was talking to one of the other contractors whose yard is beside the tree and he said it was done with an unmarked motor........This I also believe is against LA rules, your motor is meant to be sign written.
