    Work in Cheshire has been slack for a few months for me and other tree surgeons I know. I don't have work for you, but as work has been picking up lately quite massively it might be worth your while to phone around again and remind people that you are available Best of luck with it and don't give up mate.

    That's a fair summary of where I am right now Dave. My original reason however was that you couldn't buy chainsaw boots in Whanganui NZ and I needed some boots.....guess I just got used to it.

    My post is not really mean't to be an 'argument' Dave ..as in my advocating something. In the original post I invited peoples thoughts on the matter. It is my opinion. I am interested in all the replies. Even though a number of people have agreed in full or in part with my original post and of course many have disagreed.... I am weighing up everybody's thoughts on the matter and remain at liberty to change my mind at some point in the future.

    I started this thread on a bit of a whim. I was taking off my ordinary work boots which I’ve used for treework for quite a while and wondered if any one else had made the same choice. I work as climber, then groundy, then chipper…mashing up on the truck, then log processor. I have a rule that each cut is like my first year in and year out. I don’t ever make a cut without checking where my feet are and that I have a sound footing. My original post prompted a couple of angryish responses due to the wording. Perhaps I should have written it more this way in the beginning. The end result is the same though. I don’t use chainsaw boots and wondered what others thought. I don’t see the point in them because you shouldn’t ever make a single cut without knowing where your feet are. I really do expect you to check this for every cut you ever make...I do.

    Out of interest Paul, you having experienced both camps so to speak. If you have to buy your next pair yourself, will you go £180 chainsaw boots or £40 steel toe work boots?

    On consideration I have decided to award a second beer penalty to Skyhuck. This is for awarding the coveted "double Skyhuck" too easily.

    Great response for a boots thread aye. All the replies have been considered and balanced...     This is the kind of thing where everyone has a right to make a decision. I would hate to be blamed for someone losing a toe as a result of my thread on arbtalk. I am interested in other peoples point of view. The response has been surprising so far in that some people agree with me for one reason or another. I am not going to argue or force my view though. Excellent derails too.
