  1. I'm a big fan of your posts JJG , keep it up!!
  2. In the list of stuff for the chainsaw course they ask you to provide 'clean brush for air filter' This worries me that they would suggest this as in my opinion, it could force dirt into the filter, causing all sorts of problems with your air/fuel mix. If there isn't an air compressor available, wouldn't it be better to give it a tap on something to dislodge sawdust etc. Thats what I do before soaking it in fuel. I accept that they can't recomend the fuel thing cos of H&S. Maybe you could raise this question on the course and see what they say.
  3. Mistake in my spanish should be hablas espanol not hables, as hablar is an ar verb. Its been buggin me for days, thought about it when I was out on a job. Arbtalk seems to be gettin right into my head, bit like 'big brother' for tree surgeons I worked near Madrid, and near Granada, for 4 years and had my own tree thing going. All big eucys mostly and felling out big bits as they always want them for doin the roof on ruins. That contact in Galicia sounds interesting, I can never find any contacts in France and Spain, unless you meet other tree people when your'e out there. Are you still out there Treeworld? Did you go to Spain?
  4. I won't employ a person who won't employ smokers! cough wheeze..
  5. I emigrated to NZ 2 years ago, back in UK for a bit as can make more money here to buy a bit of a scratch of land out there eventually. I agree with most of the above, all good advice. If yer just goin for a visit, what the hell fill yer boots, aye!!. If you want to emigrate I'm happy to help people with what I've learned about the process. You'll need to line up a job to get enough points, most likely, specially if your'e older and lose points on the age thing. I lined one up thru the ISA. email the NZ chapter and they'll put you in touch. That said, my job didn't work out too well, and I was stuck with it for 3 months (Section 18a visa reasons). After 3 months your'e free and can do what ya like.
  6. I said: Do you speak Spanish mate?, if not you'll only work for the english Dagmar said: Its necessary to speak or understand the local dialect (I think that must be what 'vasco' is) Mr Ed said:Be prepared for ETA to blow your car up, can be a bit inconvenient Muy bien MR Ed The reason I wrote in spanish, by the way. if you ask someone if they speak spanish, you find out quicker if you do it in spanish. Mines rusty as haven't used it much for a few years now, so its always good to get an excuse to practice.
  7. Hables espanol amigo? si no, es dificil, encontras trabajar solamente para los ingles.
  8. not being pedantic about spelling here, but is 'optomize' a computer lingo word, or 'optimise' ? as in 'make the most of' . I'm not sure of correct spelling either. I'm a new business with no website, and the 90% thing gets my interest. But I can't follow the thread properly as I don't know what you mean by optomize/optimise the site. explanation would be appreciated
  9. Mr Sycamorephobic. Do you do tree work on very long stilts?
  10. I've been in tree biz, on and off for coming up 15 years (only last 5 years continuously) and have had same problem. Also quite old (49) and still climbing (just about). I use the silky a lot (as suggested above), avoid using strimmers totally, and generally try to keep chainsaw use down (which I realise sounds ridiculous). At the moment its very mild, its been worse. I also drop pints, and find intricate embroidery very difficult. My point being that with care, it does seem possible to keep it in check
  11. serious case of 'green badge disease' ? Mr Ed I guess you got good reason though, doin utilities
  12. Hola mr ed, como estas amigo Didn't go back to spain, I've been in NZ doin power lines, and now got my own little tree care thing going back in Cheshire. Como son tus perros - better mention dogs or steve will be onto me for thread hijacking soon.
  13. Thanks for the prompt response Dagmar. Your researcher, though stating that too much anthropomorphism doesn't help with a scientific approach (guilty), seems to agree with me, saying that there isn't any proof one way or another - in stating outright that animals don't have feelings/emotion. I was gonna say 'who rattled your cage' but that was me wasn't it.
  14. I love my cat and my cat loves me. Your statement that animals do not feel emotion (Dagmar) surely is subjective and not accepted scientific fact (wheres your references), bit DOGmatic aye. Is fear an emotion or auto response? animals feel that don't they. Mr Ed how are you? your dog is the most highly trained, secret, under cover butty snatcher I have ever had the priviledge to meet. Although otherwise highly trained as you say, and he was a bit of a puppy at the time. My 1st post and nothing to do with trees, except that my cat is an ace climber.
