  1. Oh no:001_smile: I knew this would happen... I've been meaning to buy one of those laser pointer things for years for pointing out specific branches:001_smile: I mean... from memory... right hand stem top of leader ... 2 stubs.. not pruning cuts to the fork... better chance of occlusion. In terms of better chance of occlusion ....I know this to be the case from looking at my own cuts years later... never mind Shigo. With occlusion of wound (not sure of spelling by the way) there is less chance of the rot we have been on about.
  2. So why are those two cuts at the top left proud as stumps then? That's been bugging me since the start. No disrespect, sounds like you're on the case.
  3. I think I can live with that 18 stoner. I have clocked you to be an intelligent poster over the years regardless of your location:001_smile: I wondered why you posted this monstrosity.. but could see it could not be made that much smaller in any pretty way. Just don't book me to reduce it in 20 years time....I'll be 72 and still climbing:001_smile: Edit: Excellent cone and sign work by the way
  4. Unfortunately...in ten to 15 years there will be large limbs growing off rotten stumps. Good repeat business .. but I wouldn't wanna be the climber.
  5. Could it not have been mullered with less (large) internodal cuts. I would go to forks where 2 small wounds are better than one large one. Especially being chestnut as its gonna sprout fine but rot back from those large internodals. There are some places where stumps have been left which could have been tidied up with proper pruning cuts. I accept that it was a funny shape and a lot of those limbs don't offer decent reduction points. There is a school of thought that it's better to leave a stump than a large wound, cut to standard pruning cut...you have adhered to this.
  6. What's up Tony....has the old rhino skin been breached by our razor wit or are you just getting a bit busy. Missing you already mate...best wishes and all the best and all that. You could just count to ten ...then explode...that's what I do:001_smile:
  7. The reason I wanted the thread to carry on was this. Some people genuinely believed that certain ways of treating younger less experienced folk within their work environment are just harmless banter. A good test of this would be to ask yourself if the person on the receiving end is enjoying or benefiting from it. In a worst case scenario negative peer pressure can be applied to a youngster forcing them to work outside their comfort zone, potentially resulting in accident or injury. This is the reason that I thought the issues raised were worthy of further discussion. This does not mean that anyone is being accused of anything, it just means that the issue has been raised. The positive outcome would be for all of us to think about the responsibility we have to younger newbies, and whether or not the way we treat them is constructive and helpful or not.
  8. Wait till the next time you blow up mate, I caught you out the other day but let it go... I think it was stumpgrinder in France who pulled your chord. I like him as he's direct and to the point like a missile:001_smile:
  9. Having just offered a pipe of peace this may seem hypocritical but this has been my point all along. The line needs to be drawn.
  10. I think that ten men is probably a good person who got taken the wrong way. Anyone that can do this job for twenty years is alright in my book. We just saw something in different ways. Something that I feel strongly about:001_smile:
  11. This thread has gone the way last nights thread should have gone.
  12. He was getting pulled up for it... So how does that devalue AT. It's an important issue and should be discussed. I know I've suffered it enough but now I'm the boss:001_smile:
  13. Oh Dear:001_smile: I want Tom D on my side....he's usually right about things:001_smile: Edit. I defended students in that thread but thought the thread should carry on to attack bullying in the industry
  14. Sorry mate I can see why your back is up, but couldn't avoid it in making my point. Your posts are valued by me and I know what you meant ...if you know what I mean:001_smile:
  15. I'm thinking it may come in handy back in NZ on big stuff but don't like the idea of not placing my own anchor by hand. Anyway mate much as I value your opinion....you ain't cut any wood up a tree yet. Wait till you've done that because one of the things AT can be about is avoiding some of the shocks you might get when you do.
  16. One of the points I was going to raise in 10 mens thread last night is that.... The newbies could teach me what SRT is all about....20 years and I ain't got a clue. Could it be usefull ... I don't know:confused1:
  17. Cheers Tony...I think:001_smile: I agree that Pete Mc Trees post is absolutely vital....pointing out that positive criticism is a good thing... Would do a smiley but it would trivialise.
  18. I did get nine holes in Mick:big grin: But I have thought about this for a while. As usual I have done it wrong. I was thinking for a long time about asking what people want out of AT and asking Steve's permission to do it.... Now I've gone and done it though haven't I:001_smile:
  19. That's cool, I want opinion......get my arse kicked soon anyway:001_smile:
  20. This could be the end of me, but here we go… Are we hard arsed tree surgeons discussing hard arsed tree surgeon issues like Ten Men’s thread last night? Or are we gonna spend the rest of time comparing leaf sizes, and discussing where to buy a new axle? That thread was important in my view as it addressed real life issues. That’s my tuppence…It’s up to you Steve.
  21. Tidy job BBB as always. Your jobs are always a bit OCD in their tidiness, and I'm a bit that way myself. Keep posting them as there is a great deal of satisfaction in seeing a job well done as yours always are.
  22. You have only just raised telling the boss how to do the job. The consensus is that it's border line banter / bad taste I started twenty years ago too. You are abdicating your responsibility.
  23. So use that experience to help bring along the newby in a safe manner. If you just want to take the piss out of them then it's bullying and not banter. If you hide behind banter when bullying then that has a name too.
  24. If they are just out of college they need guidance not put downs. It is a responsibility that you have to help them develop safely. I am not a fan of all the gear they have these days but they need it for all the acronyms they might need to get up the tree:001_smile: edit, Posted at same time as pete but same sentiment
