  1. Its not that complicated, the engine has a basic start charge circuit and if the machine has a stress control that's going to have a live feed to the box and a control wire to the solenoid valve. If you explain what the no stress does any auto electrician worth the name ought to be able to sort it out
  2. Naaah that's OK, it was a well executed job and that manoeuvre was clearly planned, the crane driver knew what was going on and did his job well. A cambium saver in the hook would have reduced the (remote) chance of the rope nipping as the chains came under load but other than that I cant fault it.
  3. In a conservation area you don't apply, you notify. This allows the LA the opportunity to make a TPO in respect of the trees to protect them. They cant refuse the works they can only make an order or do nothing allowing you to carry out the notified works. They can refuse the notification if it is procedurally incorrect but its hard to mess up a 211 notification
  4. They are a lot like a defender but you have somewhere to put your elbow:laugh1:
  5. Depends on what you are going to use the winch for occasional use in short bursts, self recovery or pulling the occasional tree over then you can go with an electric winch Anything more than the above and you are going to need mechanical or hydraulic drive
  6. You have 2 set ups there the direct drive is set up properly and looks to be complete, the remainder is a hydraulic PTO set up minus the winch, I would be interested in the hydraulic parts if you want to sell.
  7. You need to read the forum rules
  8. Regular ply can be lethal slippery but you can grip it up a bit with some cheap paint and grit sand. Other than that the stuff they use from new is called phenolic faced plywood
  9. No it wont, but it will give some idea what the minority that can be bothered voting think:laugh1:
  10. Oh yeah, I went to a farm sale near Huddersfield yesterday, it snowed.....
  11. Welcome to the club Dean, I have a singer industrial table machine (skip rescue) at the yard. Handy thing it is too
  12. It didn't grow back from the old wood it must have had a bit of green left. Yew grows back because it is a proper tree not some scummy interspecific hybrid
  13. That's how I like it:laugh1:
  14. RB44 hiab lorry tree surgery forestry logging | eBay
  15. This can be true BUT the decision to remove it belongs to the owner NOT the tenant.
  16. Leaving the ambulance chaser out of it the HSE id of the opinion that you owe a duty of care to yourself so if the item is outside the manufacturers specified life you could have a problem there
  17. You gonna need to buy a bigger pair of boots for that job:laugh1:
  18. On the contrary, mature vegetation is a proven asset to a property, what is left is an eyesore and detracts from the property value, its removal will improve the situation but that has a cost implication even if the tree is not replaced. The property has been damaged and that's what the deposit is for. You don't need to have had the intention of doing anything with the tree for there to have been a loss, the fact that you no longer have it is loss. That's completely irrelevant in law, it MAY have been noted on a survey but that's not relevant to any case for loss
  19. Fit a new part, its a simple job, bring it down on Sunday if you need a lift, Huddersfield land rovers are open Sunday and will have the part
  20. Last time I had a go I split the timber and made a cods of it, I think this time will cut it
  21. Don't ask me ask them, that's someone else's business all I care about is what they charge per day
  22. Errrrr No
  23. The law in the UK requires an element of intent for the criminal aspect to apply. In the UK its difficult to get the police interested in vegetation related crime, they like to fob it off as a neighbour dispute if they can. It often ends with the victim usually suing for financial loss and or an injunction to prevent it happening again. Having away with a tree (firewood) that belongs to another is theft plain and simple.
  24. Tried cleaving last time and it didn't go well but that could have been duff timber. Four years, bugger I am going to be late for Agincourt
  25. So since my last attempt at making a Yew self longbow was a bit of a disaster I am looking for a bit of help this time around. I have a couple of chunks of yew about 8" dia and of a suitable length, where do I go from here, any bowyers out there?
