  1. Totally agree. My local dealer doesn't have a shop front its just a smelly shed/workshop on an industrial estate! They appear to make their money from charging the older generation stupid amounts of money for annual mower service.
  2. Don't do this in your slippers!
  3. I did try but my local dealer would not budge. Whilst I would have paid say £20 to £40 more to get it from my local dealer, £210 is just too much of a stretch. I cannot fathom why there is such a huge disparity. All my saws are Stihl, but my next one will be Husqvarna.
  4. But the OP doesn't want anything with splices because he feels he would need to change it every 6 months.
  5. I was all set to purchase a stihl hedgecutter online today (HL 100) but then realised that I couldn't because of the over the counter policy. This policy must be having a significant impact on stihls sales figures. No? I had already checked my local dealer and he wanted £210 more than I could buy it for on line with delivery! I believe in supporting my local businesses, but not to that extent. I went ahead and ordered a TANAKA TCH27EAP instead. Does anyone know if stihl are suffering from this policy?
  6. Where aboots is it? I missed that.
  7. I would be interested in attending this. Thanks.
  8. Good stuff. I don't quite get the logic behind having to replace the spliced rope every 6 months. I assume this is because you possibly wouldn't get a loler inspector to pass it? I have the original art rope guide which doesn't get a lot of use anymore, due to going srt. But when I occasionally use ddrt it does make life alot easier. Anyway, best of luck with your endeavours.
  9. I may plant one and see how it does up here in the highlands. Cheers.
  10. Do you know if it had ever had a decent crop of damsons Archie?
  11. I would take up Joe Newton on his kind offer if I were you. Either that or learn how to splice.
  12. Do you know how to lower it by attaching a throwing line to you climbing line? This does away with the paracord and still allows you to lower it in a controlled manner. Last time I saw something like that it was washed up on a beach with bits of seaweed attached! Not sure I would want to be putting all that flotsam and jetsam up in a tree:001_tt2:
  13. :001_rolleyes:Wow that looks like you are making it way too complicated! Whats wrong with retrieval using your climbing line?
  14. I was always paid by weight when I used to do thinnings. It was hard work for crap money back then so I am not surprised you are meeting with resistance. However if you pay them on a day rate you may be lucky to make any money.
  15. Neither Lanyard over the shoulder for me. Haven't tried the neck loop yet as the lanyard works just fine. But I may give it a try to see if there is any gain.
  16. Sorry guv "dry stone" for you suvinas
  17. Well go with Mike Rowland then. Sounds like he's the dogs' danglies.
  18. Acer negundo
  19. Now that's what I call a timely reminder!
  20. A quick inquiry to Mr. G. Oogle brings up Mr Phill Gregson, Wheelwright’s Shop, Woodend nurseries, Boltons cop, Banks, Lancashire, PR98EL. This is how he rolls:
  21. Hmmm. I can hardly contain my excitement! Will there be lots of shiney things?
  22. Christmas decorations are also out in the shops.
  23. If its a drystane wall then I think the wall will probably be able to absorb any root growth with negligible effect on its appearance> However the beauty of drystane walls is that they can easily be rebuilt. At the other end of the spectrum, a wall with modern cement mortar may not fair so well due to the "stiffness" of the construction and its inability to absorb movement. However, as with all things to do with trees, there is seldom an easy answer as there are so many variables to consider e.g. wall construction, foundation type/depth, soil type, tree proximity, tree growth stage, tree stability, exposure, etc.
  24. I was going to suggest Majestic trees too. Particularly as you suggested money was no object! You could also try Deepdale.
