  1. We had a similar issue with the "Blue Machine" on Powerline clearence, it was only addressed at the time by the platforms we were looking at buying having 2 individual buckets, 1 on either side of the boom and very stringent controls and additional PPE for the Operative without the saw. Dont think it did ever really get sorted out.
  2. Do you have the serial number for the TW I will log it so we can keep an eye out for it,
  3. Just passed 4 snow ploughs at Settle parked up in a road end, 8 council guys there with nowt to do as its not as though there are any roads blocked round here or anything!!!
  4. Dont know why I was worried about York, could not get further that 15 miles on A65 due to jack knifed lorries etc, forget todays trip i think.
  5. Cheers for that, I think I will give it a try with plenty of time to get there, hopefully the Councils will have got their acts together by then, they had n't gritted with us until yesterday, the A65 was an ice rink from Kirkby Lonsdale to Bradford yesterday morning.
  6. Anybody on here from the York area, meant to be over there around lunchtime and just wondered what the roads are like, we had about 3" of snow last night onto hard packed ice here and its still snowing. Is it worth the hastle, travelling from near the Lake District?
  7. I would recommend that if possible you try before you buy, we all have our favourites for our own reasons, these reasons may be not be the same as yours. As always, but especially now cost is a huge issue, do not get drawn into buying the first chipper that you can afford, be sure it is right for you, a small saving today has a bad habbit of turning into a large expense tomorrow. I know this has not given you any advise on Arboreater chippers as you requested, but hopefully it has helped a little.
  8. sounds like alucky escape to me.lol:scared:
  9. Heard a story once, it may only be a story but it brought tears to my eyes: A rugby player dislocated his hip during a game, The doctor re- situated the joint but the player seemed to be in more pain after it was replaced than before, the story goes that upon closer examination one of the player's testicles had got trapped in the joint when it was replaced. Whether or not this is true, or even possible I do not know but when I heard it, it made my guts churn.
  10. Ouch:2gunsfiring_v1:! No diplomacy there then!!!
  11. A.C.Price Eng recently mounted small cranes onto 2 x 14' ifor trailers and fitted them with low ground pressure wheels and tyres, may be worth a call. http://www.acprice.co.uk
  12. Bald Ed - Have you been a polititian in a previous life. You keep almost answering the question but not giving us the definitive answer. Fair Play, my political career has not yet taken off but thanks for the suggestion. David Dimbleby could learn a thing or 2 from you. lol The Intermeshing feed rollers only interlock when no timber is present but IMO this intermeshing assists when grabbing small clippings as they will grab the smallest twig! which was my initial point. Whether this is an advantage or a sales gimmick is upto the user to decide. Any way, I am going to canvass my potential constituents as to a possible change in career.
  13. Under no circumstances was my comment relating to intermeshing feed rollers meant to be misleading, the point that I was making was that the rollers will pull in the smallest piece of brash and as you will no doubt agree, when feeding clippings etc you rely on the rollers to get hold of small pieces to drag the rest in. If I have misled anyone then I apologise but I stand by the point that I made. Experience is a great teacher!
  14. IMO if you are looking to feed in small clippings etc without going to the extra expense of a dual purpose chipper / shredder you may find the Jensens interlocking feed rollers will pull the smaller stuff in better than some of other machines! Have a look on http://www.arborcut.com there are some decent s/h machines on there.
  15. IMO if you are looking to power a mulcher you are better with a tractor, fastracs and Unimogs will not give you the traction that you require and the undersides have alot of pipework etc that is susceptable to damage without major forestry guarding. The Fendt is a good all round unit, maybe not as fast as the mog on the road but well capable of powering all the implements that you mention. The timber crane issue I am not too sure of as I have not come across a Fendt fitted with a crane but 3 point-linkage or demounts systems are available or could be adapted to work with the chipper. one word of warning! In my experience trying to make one machine do every job well is difficult, it will always be a compramise. Decide on your main job for the unit and design the kit to suit that work, try not to impede that operation when you add what is needed for the other jobs that you want to undertake, you want a jack of all trades that is a master of at least 1.
  16. Those 2 scaffolding bars could have someones eye out. LOL!!!
  17. I have heard of people trying to produce this type of material using a large drum chipper with either a very large screen or with the screen removed, the finished product is a mixture of wood from 6" lumps to dust, are you thinking of using a disk type cutter or a drum?
  18. An earlier thread covered the benefits of advertising our services and skills on the internet, this got me thinking as to how much we use the net for purchasing products, skills etc. What limits if any do you set yourselves when purchasing off the net, do you have a price limit, only buy on-line from companies that you know or do you just use the web as a showroom window to cut out the rubbish before you go and try before you buy.
  19. NFU cover both my vehicles and any chipper / trailer and contents under a traders policy, also covers any driver fo both vehicles fully comp, have not had any claims and that is always the tester of a good company but NFU were the best I could find.
  20. My Father was a 19 year old soldier who was with first troops to enter Belsen during its liberation in April 1945. He sees himself as 1 of the lucky ones having seen the atrosities that war brings not only to the armed forces who are expected to cope with them, but to the inocent men, women and children who are caught up in it. He will never forget and has instilled in me the same respect for those who were not so lucky as he was, be it in past or current conflicts. It is our responsibility to ensure that this respect and rememberance is passed on to our children and that they never forget the sacrifices that have been made for all of our futures.
  21. "Get a move on, we need this wood to keep the boiler going"
  22. Looking good, should catch people,s eyes, Working fine on my machine and I have just had to stoke the boiler its that old. Keep up the good work!
  23. Coming into this topic from the other side, how much do you use suppliers sites for info and purchases, in an earlier thread a question was asked as to where to find a certain make of chipper as they do not have a website, how much does the internet influence your decision as to which equipment to look at, demo and in-turn purchase?
