It is better to sharpen by hand definatly. But i think if the chain is really shagged a machine can set up the chain to some normality.

It's for quite a good friend who I work with/for sometimes. Il get him to bring a few beers round and teach him how to do it on the smaller chain and watch him on the longer chain. I say watch but I will be drinking mainly. Haha. I think it will be cheaper for me to send my knackered chains to Jonesie than to do it myself !

I have been asked to sharpen a 404 chain with a bench grinder. The chain is off a 4ft bar and is a 404. There is a second chain off a 3ft bar and is a 404 as well. Haven't got a clue how much to charge as I only really do my own with the grinder if the chain is really knackered. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
