  4. Surely youn would make that judgement, in my trail period of employment?
  5. The last thread was an example of what you can achieve if you have the driveto do it, I just got the feeling that you reckon that if you are over 40 your past it, which judging by other peoples comments does not seem to be true. Any way does it matter how old you are, as long as you enjoy what you are doing ?
  6. Steve, I just recieved a pop up saying I had a private message from you but when I tried to go and get it it wasn't there, is it my computer ? if so maybe you could send it again, sorry to be a pain.

  7. Mike, You have opened up a very interesting debate here, I can see where you are coming from with your Young Gun bit, But, and this is the big BUT, generally I would say, Yes the earlier you start the better you will be at an earlier age, BUT, I am 52 this year, and started in the industry just ten years ago, I was slopping hogs on my fathers farm, as soon as I was old enough to hold a shovel, have done physical work all my life, I started climbing from day one, started my own business up, went to evening class at Capel Manor, and got my RFS, and I am certainly not going to stop for you or any one else. I guess the point I am trying to make is don't tar everybody with the same brush. PS. I am a leading Firefighter with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, with 15 years experience, LFF's go into the burning building first, so the idea of us old uns not having the guts, determination and stanina isnt always true. Hope you understand where I am coming from.
  8. Hi Andy,

Good to meet you at the Capel Manor Show, just by reading some of the posts, it sounds as though everbody had a good time, may be catch up with you guys at the APF.

  9. Sorry mate, but I really fail to see where you are coming from, the idea of going out to prove yourself IMO can lead to risk taking, One should always work within their capabilities, otherwise their is a potential for an injury to occur, this is not what a young climber wants, as it can then be a hinderance to him through out his career.
  10. Originally Agricultural ties were put on properties that had agricultural tenancies, ie the tenant had to work in the agricultural industry. the properties are then banded in a different council tax bracket, the person living in the property should have some connection to the agricultural industry. If you say you maintain the hedges on your land ladies farm, then you are engaging in farm maintenace, and also your son works on a local farm, again he is in the agricultural industry. Alot of farmers that have agricultural tied cottages, and have reduced their workforce, now rent out these properties to non agricultural tenants. So your best option would be citizens advice, and some good legal advice. The NFU, (National Farmers Union) would be able to advise you on agricultural tenancies. I hope that the council are sympathetic towards you
  11. bet if you were the guy stuck in the tree, you would be happy for the groundie to rescue you from a ladder
  12. This reminds me of a similar event which happened to me, a long time ago when I first started tree work. I was contracted out to another company to fell 5 Oak trees on a new road on a new road constrution site. I took along my 660 with a 30" bar, and just for snedding a small husky with a 15" bar, I felled one tree and then the 660 packed up. The contractor was spitting bullets, so I pulled out the small husky, and he said, **** off your having a laugh, But I cut a gob out, bored out the centre, cut off the buttresses, and then felled the tree. He couldn't believe it, Big trees can be felled with small saws, if you know what you are doing, which quite clearly the bloke in this video DID NOT. P.S. mum used to knit us jumpers like that when we were young.
  13. Ever seen a painter with out a paint brush ?
  14. I pay my climbers £110.00 per day, and when the jobs finished they go home, so it's an incentive for them to get on with the work and not dilly around.
  15. Hi 76AR have just been browsing your comments, could you PM me with a price of a pallet load to Essex, including no of bags and what you expect they could be sold for retail, I am expanding my firewood business, to include kindling in 2010, Many thanks BGG
  16. Just recieved an email from the local authority.Three chippers have been stolen in the Chelmsford area (Essex) in the last month. Two from the same guy!! He had his first one stolen, and then several weeks later when he got his new one they stole it off his drive. Apparently he saw them drive off. The chipper was later recovered, crashed into a ditch, and was badly damaged. The vehicle used in the theft was a dark blue jeep cherokee reg L598 WLR this is a false registration and does not belong to the vehicle the police have informed him. Keep yuor eyes peeled.
  17. Like Bob says, The Art Positioner is just for positioning, and is not designed to take the loadings in a fall situation, you should NOT be climbing on this device, but using a lockjack or spiderjack on your main climbing line. The art positioner costs approx £75.00 where as the Lockjack costs £175.00 so I can see why some people think they will use the Art for climbing.
  18. This problem has been around for ages. just take a little more time when refueling and oiling up, and check that it is on tight. I know from experience and there is nothing worse than chain oil all over you.
  19. Mind ya toes, Pete. I'll be having a cold beer, watching you in your white panties!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Can any one give some advice? I have been approached by a farmer, who want's his wood thinning. I said that generally we do the work and take the timber. It works both ways he gets his wood thinned, and we get the timber to sell. He want's also to be paid for the timber. It is all about 6" diameter, so will be very labour intensive per tonnage. I said that it won't be economically viable to pay him due to the high cost of processing, labour etc. Any thoughts, do you pay for your timber? What is the general going rate per ton, or cubic meter. It is local to me so don't have too far to haul it.
  21. This is the same guy that had the Posch firewood processor for sale last week.
  22. From past experience, if you want to buy gear don't wait till 4pm on sat, as most of it will be sold. If your going for two days take a book!! It ain't that big a show, not like the APF.
  23. Is anybody meeting up for a beer at Capel Manor ?
  24. Was working on a big Monterey Pine a while back, and Keith Flint went jogging by, smaller than I had imagined him, and lots of tats, one of my team had been to his gigs, and sang firestarter all afternoon until we filled his mouth with woodchip.
