  1. Ha ha. Thanks for going through the tedium and pain for me. It's something I've contemplated doing before, but never got round to it. I shan't bother now. I have made jam from Hawthorn in the past, and Rowan. Neither was good. Bitter and astringent, even with sufficient sugar. Giant Hawthorn Gin certainly much better.
  2. Same as Sloe Gin really. Pick lots of berries and then soak them in gin for months. At least six. Add sugar to taste. Either at the end or at the start of the soaking process. Those were a type of giant Chinese Hawthorns, but I'm sure normal ones will do.
  3. I make no apologies for questions. I prefer to pose questions as a starting point in a reasoned discussion aimed at establishing truth or consensus . I think that's a better approach than simply stating tired rhetoric, in a repetitive dogmatic manner, in an attempt to pass it of as fact. Non should pose a challenge to a man of your intellect anyway or you could just say I don't know the answer. I trust you had a pleasant evening. What were the highlights of the local culture for you? 6. Last year's Hawthorne gin. Nice but could do with some more mellowing and/or tonic.
  7. The chicks will grow up soon. What you going to do then? If you can do onions you can do garlic. Garlic makes more sense to me, on account of it's cost/potency ratio. Also chillies, they're dead easy and you get lots of bang for your buck. Got any squash fruits yet? Mine are on the cusp I think. They're outside , I have not the luxury of a tunnel. And Toms will be starting to ripen in a week or so I reckon.
  8. The debate about the competence/effectiveness of the NHS vs. Private in the UK. I can vouch for the NHS, based on reliable information and personal experience. I am due for cataract surgery next week. A few months ago when it was first picked up by the opticians, they made me a rapid referral to a private healthcare provider. It was a dream: I got a consultation within a couple of weeks. It all seemed very good on the day, superficially at least, but something didn't quite feel right. I was very much on a fast track to getting surgery asap. (Obviously so they could paid by the NHS asap. It was private, but funded by the NHS. However the fck that works. I wasn't due to pay a penny. The company is clearly parasitising our public money). Due to my misgivings I spoke to a mate of mine, a former opthalmic surgeon. He advised not to touch them with a bargepole, on account of mine not being a standard cataract case. (They'd indeed not picked up on that at all). He said that if anything went wrong, or if there were any kind of complications at all, I'd end up back at the NHS without doubt anyway. For them to pick up the pieces. The real medical expertise is still always within the NHS. The private companies just cherry pick the easy, lucrative, low hanging fruit. That sentiment has been echoed by all the doctoring friends of mine. The kicker. I didn't actually have to wait long at all for a date for the surgery with the bog standard national health service, only a few weeks. The consultant explained that that was due to the fact that they had short waiting lists because the private companies were hoovering up all the run-of-the-mill cases. It's a topsy turvy world old world now.
  9. Thought not. That explains "the rather "random use of" marks". Nothing to do with right wing or education btw. You're not the only right wing person on here you know. Anyway. Back, I don't know how many pages, to your assertion that the NHS is being used to care for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants. Have you got any figures for that? What percentage of them access an NHS service, after arriving yesterday? It's just that the vast majority of non-indigenous people, immigrants, that I see in healthcare settings are elderly, male and female gender of equal proportion and quite often obese, to a greater or lesser extent. I.e. not the demographic of your average seafaring, rubber dinghy borne "illegal". (You'd expect fighting age males to be pretty fit and healthy after all). I'd wager that the obesity epidemic, and lesser public health issues, are costing the NHS considerably more than immigrants. What do you think we should do to combat that? Combatting immigration won't help with that at all. Not to mention the fact that the NHS is hugely staffed by immigrants. That's a whole other strand to the conversation. Its complicated. Any thoughts, care to discuss?
  10. It's been a good year for it, garlic likes sun. Plus it had a good depth of homemade compost and a fair bit of water.

  15. I wonder how many of the 1.5M new homes that Labour insist we "need" we do actually need?
  16. Weird. Probably just greedy developers misjudged the market conditions. Maybe the plans for the houses were drawn up years ago when things were different.

    Jokes???

    Well done sir.
  18. Thanks. You're trying. Though you've still not answered the question. It's ok to say you don't know the answer btw. How are Reform proposing to tackle the growing obesity and public health crisis in the UK? I'm don't know if they've thought about that yet. Since we're both in agreement that Labour aren't doing very well. Common ground. This is encouraging at least. 20. Indeed. Let's talk about double standards. You still haven't answered the question. What percentage of immigrants commit rape? What do you think about Labour spying on your meals?
