  1. Ahhh I was just thinking that not only does he not cut his own grass, maybe he doesn't see to his own trees. Haha.
  2. Nigel: thank you very much for the highly informaive reply. Has highlighted a few features in my mind. I'm after a slightly bulkier feel to a rope. The imori really ticks the boxes. My next question is: does anyone have any information with regards working life / longevity of the imori after it's obvious different construction process. Any difference? Wears quicker? Many thanks in advance. My local Chainsaw dealer is now a fletcher Stewart dealership so I will pop in and MAKE him order some Imori for me to get my paws on.
  3. Isn't that Hucks house? Lol.
  4. I love them old shots in the honey brothers catalogues of the guys rigging down those poplars off of huuuuge ladders. And the one of the guy with an early chainsaw up a massive cedar and Brian Brice (or similar name) on a tree bicycle.

    Ax men!

Will you add me on facebook. I need more friends.
  6. Is that right? 14mm max for use on a porta wrap style capstan?

    Ax men!

I wish I was an axman.
  8. Top job. Imagine if next year they say "can you take about a foot of the top". Haha.
  9. Cool vid mate. Just one thing I did notice was how much the pieces could have been let run through the capstan but were actually snatched causing seemingly uneccessary shock loading and also the larger pieces of the stem were pulling the groundie towards the capstan. Potentially lethal.
  10. 10 pages in 14 hours. That's not bad.
  11. It's not down to me to do anything. I was just opening up a healthy debate on current training practises. See what you guys think. To the guy who asked "who is going to pay for all this"? Nothing is happening, so the answer is no-one.
  12. Can you uprate the suspension and change the plates on a transit?
  13. Now this is more of a healthy debate. Could this be where insurance companies may get involved by not offering to insure or at least making premiums sky high for people that had maybe only got basic certs and were newly passed? Possibly? Possibly not. That way the public awareness could be raised up a bar or two with regards to insurance and proper training. Maybe. Maybe not.
  14. If wanting to get into training makes me a gaylord then that's fine. If I can get paid to climb trees without dragging a saw up a tree. I also like the idea of teaching. Those that can, Teach. Haha. Whoever. I wouldn't just carry on blindly following the curriculum if you like. I want to show a keen interest in progression.
  15. That is exactly my point. The current system seems gears towards almost appretiship type employment. Whereby the tickets are the provisional and the employer will follow the training on. Yet the current system allows people to do a minimal amount of training and go it alone.
  16. Yeah , yeah , yeah. But is it too easy to pass. I think so. I think the assessors are on pay role depending on number of passes. Commission based. Haha.
  17. Yeah and No. What I wanted to discuss was current NPTC units and training, not "scrap all college courses and who has ever rescued someone". I want to get in to training and have been thinking about current standards alot.
  18. Your a very valid debater and most welcome. Wether your interested in the thread or not, I'm not sure. If you were actually interested in the thread I wouldve expected your answer to have been along the lines of "mmmm interesting Frank, I think the NPTC should do.........." you see what I mean.
  19. That's my life. Haha
  20. Yeah of course. Maybe I shouldve worded the original thread starter better. Maybe I shouldve said "this came up in conversation today, what do you guys think". Because I started the thread, some of the answers felt personal to begin with. So when you said about loosing jobs I was thinking you meant me, not generalising. Sorry bud.
  21. What a fantastic idea Bob. That answer was morethe reason I started his thread. Throw some ideas around. Brainstorm. Not, "why do you think that Frank", or "that's silly frank"
  22. I don't care what tickets people have. Why would it matter to me in anyway shape or form what certs someone has in say Essex or Liverpool.
  23. I wouldn't retest anyone. I'm not an examiner. This thread was not supposed to be about what Frank thinks or has said. It wasn't supposed to be personal. Just a generalisation of industry practises and what people thought of them.
  24. I'm not bothered about loosing jobs to gardeners, I'm not even bothered about having tickets or not. This thread was a talking point for whoever was interested. Not necessarily my true beliefs.
  25. That's not the point. I'm not talking specifically about having accidents. Before you got your tickets, where you driving around telling people you were a "fully qualified tree surgeon"? No. You were a fully experienced tree cutter. Now you have your tickets, do you call your self a "fully qualified tree surgeon"? No probably not. More likely a tree cutter who is experienced and now on the right side of legislation. My point was more about how easy it is to get a couple of tickets and think your a tree surgeon.
