We usually get the piece to stop just before the ground so the crew can take pieces off easily, then the large lump left can be lifted straight into trailer or truck before the chains return to the climber.

Sometimes the extra cost of the crane is minimal because of the amount of time able to be saved. Say for instance at a business park where cars need to be in and out and deliverys etc. Blocking the way and causing a nuisance for 2 days rigging and dismantling a tree would be far more costly than a crane for 3 hours and 8 cuts. Probably not the best explanation but you know what I mean?? You can see straight away from them photographs that the climber and banksman/crane operator have a good communication system and plan. This is key.
  5. Its ok if you fell them in the dark though isnt it???
  6. Yeah Dave, just a clean up. 2 branches hanging up there still.
  7. Hoping for a Reg Coates-esque 4 cut technique on the pines. Haha.
  8. The seqouia is part of the full job. Lost a couple of large limbs, visible in second shot due to snow and wind etc. Deadwooded the 2 beech first. Ive got a few more pics to put up later. Sequoia will be attacked on monday. Hoping for a gratuitous "head out the top shot". Plus there is 3 BIG pines to come down when the ground is hard enough for a crane.
  9. Think it was with the Hamas camera. I dont put it on auto, but still getting used to setting all the Features. In that last shot it would have been nice to see the anchor point a bit better. Im still learning.

Didnt think you were being big headed. If anything you made hard work of it. We usually get trees down in 3 cuts. 2 at the front and 1 from the back. Haha. Bit harder to clean up though I imagine.

  16. You know your a tree surgeon when "everyone you know wants something for free or at least really, really cheap".
  17. When people look at you in awe and describe you as a hero. Haha.
  18. Ok so the sirius I used today to test the new poison ive worked an absolute treat. Awesome. The rope is amazing. Absolutely love it. Would recommend to all.
  19. Nah, not enough days in the week. Time off from work = time with the wife and kids. Miss it though. Was a massive part of my life and enabled me to travel around the whole country(and abroad) at quite a young age on a regular basis.
