  1. That can ruin someones business i hope somehow he finds them. Check he write the serials down ??. if can remember any unique marks etc.
  2. What weight chip can they carry and what kind of license do they need im guessing not your normal post 97. Also what price would you need to pay for a solid one.
  3. I would say if a question like that was asked that over the years i have worked on thousands of trees and i have learnt the effects of my work many years after therfore i know what is the least destructive method to acheive your expectations. Aswell as being taught and teaching myself through learning. But good point tho. In a nutshell your a tree surgeon when you cut trees period. Your a professional when you have qualifications and an understanding of why and what your doing and its long term effects. IMO.
  4. Ah not cut and dry then.
  5. I cant complain never had my transit break down with three years solid work sure they aint fast they are loud and the clutch is turd but for the price you cant beat imo. But lets be honest if money is no obsticle its the iveco either 35c12 or 35c14 i think any way 125bhp or 140bhp over 90bhp is just a winner.
  6. Steve i would say add detailed info on the pro's and con's on each knott friction hitch etc also the different sizes of rope and type. I am not sure if you will add rope types but it cost me alot of money trying to find out what combo works for me. And in the future a complete knot guide in book format would be a winner, but as you say one thing at a time.
  7. Ford transit tipper all the way cheap and reliable i have a n reg tipper got it three years ago its mint carrys full load and chipper fine not as good as the turbo trucks but for a first truck. I paid £2200 for my one and then about £150 for a professional chip box mate rate tho on the chip box. They do rust and drive like a tank but they keep on going and that is what you need a work horse when you get busy go for the superb iveco 35c12 125hp turbo loverly.
  8. My personal thought is most of my work is domestic and i have never once been asked to provide my tickets i have to show them, to which most dont know what they are. I would only do a refresher if it was legally required to keep my insurance. Again in 5 years i have not forgot how to drive so i dont think ill learn some new way to cut a tree with a chainsaw either. Im not as time served as many of you but im getting quiet pissed off with the rediculous regulations we are to abide by. I think you should be competently trained and have EL and PL. Other than that its an expensive with no reward.
  9. What it means is and this is from an instructor that any one with tickets now or before will all keep your tickets but will all have to attend refresher courses which will contain uptodate practices etc not redo the courses.
  10. arbormaster you will love it it loves a vt hitch on beeline too. Had new england this is a much better rope.
  11. This is the NPTC taking the piss. but to let you know my insurance was gained before i had tickets once i got my tickets they said you dont get a cheaper premium you was accepted without them and the price dont change. So i wasted a shed load of money for what. So i dont know what you make of that but you can get insured without nptc tickets therfore work legally. I think the nptc might wake up or face loosing a hell of alot of potential candidates. Oh yeah and i have to refresh in 5 years to keep my tickets valid. This will be the same for everyone those who have had for years will still have to refresh thats one refresher for cs30-31 £3-400 and one for climbing £???
  12. Had my strechys for coming into second year next month and only prob is some stitching around the zipper hhas come away and my zipper kinda is wonkey. But love them nice to climb in and they been heavy used only holes are were sometimes i might catch them with my spikes when walking. Im getting another pair had hiflex and crawled into one years use they are not for me material is very weak very light tho but you do look like a gay in them lol.
  13. Silky cuts never seam to heal right. cut my thumb once still have little odd scar.
  14. Quiet simply because customers are not raging fools. We only buy things if they can benefit us more than the previous equiptment. I will only ever trust my own judgement not someone else who does not put their life in the equiptment i use. Really thats all i can be bothered to say.
  15. I have been climbing 5-6 years now. Why?. Also advances in climbing equiptment have little to do with regulation and more to do with evolution for manufacturers to continue selling they must update change things to keep us wanting newer better versions.
  16. So true, Qualifications are not proof the person can do quality work only that they passed specific tests. People work at different levels some are naturally talented some are not some should stick to the books and tests and some should get on with it. Personally i go to work to earn money doing something i really love doing. That for me makes me happy titles dont.
  17. Afag is not legal im sure its a guidance.
  18. The thing is who says that cs40-41 are needed to work in the tree they are only optional. cs30-31-38-39 are what are most common asked for. I rarely get asked for them but never ever been asked about 40-41. tech cert rfs etc dont make you a tree surgeon thats just one half of the coin a combination of cs30-31-38-39-40-41 plus either rfs or aa techcert etc that imo makes you fully qualified. Should include chipper stump grinder ticket mewp is optional if you use them.
  19. my tranny with built sides weighs 2200kgs and i have a heavy tipper body. but 1300kgs seams ok i like having two trannys cheaper than 7.5 tonne truck for insurance and taxing dont need a yard to park them dont have taco. so on big days that 2600kgs which i find perfect.
  20. That would explain why i get the shits every time i drink coffee. I had some bad times after a coffee haha got into the tree and had to climb back down and release the beast lol. I have noticed tree workers get through shocking amounts of tea etc.
  21. You hate the term tree surgeon well you can polish a turd but its still a turd. Arborist is for the people who think tree surgeon just wont do you know the type think there special. I use the term the public know i mean please put down arborist as your keywords haha ill keep tree surgeon
  22. I have seen so many tree surgeons with more tickets than a train conductor yet they still do tree work that is not good. To become a tree surgeon a proper one takes years to perfect its like art some are good some are crap. Its all down to those who go the extra mile to make a job proper and those who just get it done. I do agree cs30-31-38-39-40-41 makes you a pro in terms of technical skill the rest can only be learned i still have not got all the above again it takes time.
  23. Too many people are so used to being ripped off they dont even realise it. This recession will be such a good thing the value of money will become relevant and greedy companies will crash and burn. Its not aimed at dealers its aimed at our whole industry our prices will go down so why should we be paying higher costs on gear. Every one should have the right the the best protection or are you saying the poorer guys should have shite gear that you would not wear. I personally use the top line but some people cant afford it and thats were my thoughts have come from.
  24. The days of showrooms etc will be over price will drive them out. It will be a website with a warehouse and delivery that will do the best. You buy from many decent shops you get reward point why aint arb dealers offering deals. All i know is like 90percent of other tree guys we hate these prices as it is and will continue to shop around and who knows might not even bother with overpriced uk companys just import for states still cheaper.
  25. In a word where...
