  1. Black bean aphid (Aphis fabae). The ants "farm" them for honeydew. Did you notice one of those ants was carrying a very small galvanised bucket? Chemical controls for this pest include white phosphorus, napalm, hand grenades etc. Cracking pics, MonkeyD!
  2. For beer, most of us would come and look at basically anything.
  3. Llyn Padarn one fine winter morning.
  4. Haven't enjoyed that site so much for ages. Brilliant!
  5. I think the fact that he's an "Oceanist" should be ringing a few alarm bells, eh?
  6. Thanks for contributing to this resource, lads. I'm in the middle of reviewing my surveying risk assessment form, so once I've put it back together I'll post it here to be pilloried (constructively, of course). Scott
  7. Anyone seen this? Absolutely hilarious. Re: The Strange Affair of Sam Corngrass
  8. Have paedophiles turned your house gay?
  9. Piggy?
  10. Collybia fusipes?
  11. Clown week? Great. At least I'll look normal for one week of 52 each year.
  12. Out of interest were they an adjacent Rhododendron populations, or nurseries nearby?
  13. Am I the only one who would like to see a picture?
  14. That, Sir, is a tidy job. Were the treehouse's inhabitants cursing you?

That yellow felt-tip captured the light on the crop perfectly
  21. I wonder if you can get Claymore mines on Ebay?
  22. is "a disgrace" too strong?
  23. Hurrah! How big is the one at the arboretum, Giles?
  24. Not used the Arbofix system but have planted hundreds with the Platipus gear. Bear in mind you'll need to buy the drive rod to drive the anchors into the ground (get the one which attaches to the 19mm hex breaker rather than the one you whack with a sledgehammer covered in mud). I've always found the Platipus gear very reliable as long as you've got adequate depth of soil and the soil you're fixing into isn't made-up ground as on a development site). You can backfill made-up soil, but you'll need to compact the subsoil in courses with a whacker plate. What girth is the tree you're hoping to plant? Is a below-ground system required in this instance?
  25. If the leaves are opposite, how's about Montpelier maple? Acer monspessulanum?
