I think you are correct. Most farmers know everyone/everything that is going on in their area - their’s isn’t a business that pops up overnight. It is moving away from the point to suggest that it is difficult/impossible to deal with farmers though - they (and this is a generalisation based on my experience) tend to be incredibly shrewd, and often successfully run much much larger businesses than appearances may suggest! They are as good at doing deals as they are at turning sunshine into milk/wheat/lamb etc!

If anyone turned up unannounced in my yard in a Transit requesting to ‘work alongside me’ I’d make instant assumptions that their intentions were not at all beneficial to me. I cannot think of a single reason why I would take such an approach as anything other than the start of some sort of scam. Maybe I’m racist towards transit drivers though!

That’s not a 7.5 tonner. Look at the size of the wheels/tyres - only a nutcase would put all that kit onto anything less than an 18 tonner. That with a bin on the back won’t have much payload - it would be a great arb truck (running at 18 tonnes) as it would possibly legally carry 6 or 7 tonne, which is a decent load of woodchip or timber. Pretty much useless for moving aggregates/machinery though.

I’d bet you it’s more than that. No way that vehicle can carry anything legally running at 3.5 tonnes - I doubt it’s legal empty!

I’d pull the motor off and run it up - you’ll know straight away then. Shouldn’t be more than 4 bolts holding it on I’d imagine.

More pics required - where is it/what’s behind it/what does that grease nipple supply? I suspect your motor might have shat itself and oil is finding it’s way through the shaft into the drive flange and then seeping out through the bearing (but from the info and pic that is pure conjecture!).

You need to see if a fitting is leaking or if it’s pissing out of the motor itself. Have you got any expendable/replaceable kids that could get close for a look while you run it up from the cab?

Sometimes hydraulic fittings need ‘Doughty’ washers (a bonded seal with rubber inside a steel washer) to seal - this is often the case going into motors/spool blocks etc (anywhere that the male/female parts of the fittings don’t compress together inside). If you can tighten the fitting until there’s no threads showing then the chances are it should haves doughty - don’t dog it up or you’ll break something/strip threads. Also, is there a case drain and have you plumbed it into a return line!

Should be a pretty easy/flexible tyre once you’ve broken the bead. As said, drive over it if you can. Plenty of lube too.

Both fantastic setups - just a shame there is any potential doubt because of the prevalence of scammers and eBay’s distinct lack of giving a shit! Homework homework homework and actually seeing/touching the machine in the flesh before committing any money is the only way to go on a big purchase from eBay imo.

Surely that’s a joke price? It’d look ridiculous even if you knocked £100000 off it! It is a 13 year old commercial vehicle that’s done more than 170k kilometres (unlikely to be steady motorway miles) with a porta-cabin on the back. They’ve not even put a new drivers seat in it to ease the pain of the gullible mug with more money than sense that gets bent over buying it!

Devil’s advocate - why did you move to Devon? From previous posts it seems you didn’t go there from a business-plan point of view as you said you expected to be working away back in Scotland some of the time. Hats off to you for making it work from a forestry business perspective, but I’m not sure moving through choice to somewhere with crazy house prices (as a result of supply/demand) gives you any sort of moral high ground to subsequently moan about house/land prices. There are loads of places on this island that you could live for a lot less money (anywhere in Scotland for a start) - surely the issue lies with schooling above anything else from your radio interview?
