Could you get into the landscaping side more? Landscaping in the summer and tree work in the winter? As Andy and James said it could give you the opportunity to do the best of both worlds. Whatever you choose, I wish you all the best.

I've busted a couple in the same way you describe Matt. Ive found If you try to only use the pliers away from the eye if possible and make sure you don't bend the needle any more than is necessary. Massaging the throat of the splice or bringing the stitching further down can make it easier.

And pulley is wrong way round!! Ha ha. Other than that its sweet! Your Missus is braver than mine buying climbing gear!!!
