  1. i know this will stir up some issues, but what the hey! whilst delivering firewood i often meet customers who have bought a chainsaw (one even has a ms660) and have no ppe and no idea on the safe use of one. i will not deliver un-cut wood in lengths to these people unless they get or have the ppe, i even tell them they should get some training. now this is where the issue starts. they quite often ask where and how much it would cost, then they ask me if can give them some basic training!! my question is where do i stand with this as they are not looking for a qualification or NPTC, but just want to be safe after i scare them with the chainsaw boot i put a saw through. (foot was not in it at the time, i did it to show customer what i can do) obviously i can see a potential to make some money here and get wood cut up at my yard at the same time, but i can also see the potential here for claims to start what do you think??
  2. 32,000 i rekon
  3. no, i ment 6 wheeler with grab cos i wanted you guys to know there was a crane on the truck.......should've said that in the first place:blushing:
  4. ed you will need a processer of some sort to cut the timber into the exact right lenght to fit in the splitter/kindla for it to work right otherwise you will have a lot of ringing up to do
  5. if you dont mind me asking, how much do you buy in cord wood at??? had a chap ring me up and offer me cord wood of mixed size hardwood delivered in for £40 +vat. i told him that was too much, he replied with... well firewood prices have shot up recently and you comand good money for it. i replied with...it only goes up cos you guys keep puting your prices for wood up so we just pass the cost on to the customer. he would deliver 20-25ton on a 6 wheeler with grab now i buy in softwood at 27 ton which arrives on a 6 wheeler with 4 wheel drag am i being conned here with the weight?????
  6. nice barn! what tractor is that??
  7. This is remarkably funny. Because sadly, its true! going round by email, just recieved it Isn't THIS the truth! GOD: Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistle and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colours by now. But, all I see are these green rectangles. ST. FRANCIS: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers "weeds" and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass. GOD : Grass? But, it's so boring. It's not colourful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees; only grubs and sod worms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there? ST. FRANCIS : Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn. GOD: The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy. ST. FRANCIS : Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it - sometimes twice a week. GOD : They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay? ST. FRANCIS: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags. GOD: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it? ST. FRANCIS : No, Sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away. GOD : Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And, when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away? ST. FRANCIS : Yes, Sir. GOD : These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work. ST. FRANCIS: You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it, so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it. GOD: What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn, they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. It's a natural cycle of life. ST. FRANCIS : You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away. GOD : No! What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose? ST. FRANCIS : After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves. GOD: And where do they get this mulch? ST. FRANCIS : They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch. GOD : Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for us tonight? ST. CATHERINE: "Dumb and Dumber", Lord. It's a story about.... GOD: Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.
  8. gona post a pic then???
  9. tongue:so nice you had to post it twice!!!!!:
  10. nope, been looking for one for the 42!
  11. i think you may have to increase your price range a touch, most of the cheap ones have already been bought, but...............if i were you i would go on fuelwoods site (others are available) as soon as the royal show is over, or just after any other show and click on the specials, richard always takes in trade ins and you can always buy one with or without a service. he alsosells machines for other people. worth a look and definatly a ring, they are very helpful, but i think you may have to go up to 5k for a processer
  12. hi mate.

bulk bags......... well take a chance, but yes the centers dont dry to well and do go mouldy but it does depend on the wood you put in and the moisture content of it, as well as the time of year and the amount of air flow around the bags.

they are not crap but they are not the best things since sliced bread either

  13. it may be like the beech tre which maximises the light availability where it will try not to grow leaves where ther is too much shade. saw it on a program...think it was the private life of plants
  14. yeah , i remember reading it in the mag
  15. was'nt that all the wind blown timber from SODKA in sweden a few years ago??
  16. if you got kids, or even if you have'nt, you have to see this film, not just because it is soo funny, but because the 3D effects are soo good saw a 3D film at Legoland a few years ago but this one was amazing. dont know how good it will be on dvd, but dont miss the chance to see it on the big screen. in the first few sceens when the leaves were floating towards us the whole cinema went WOW. dont miss it.
  17. really, i thought you went in the neighbouring tent:sneaky2:
  18. nah it was crappy poplar.... chipped all fluffy, stringy and black. did turn the rest of the pile into firewood though
  19. is this what you want stevie???????
  20. got both a thor and a wood line and had koler, honda and b&s engines woodline is faster than thor for splitting worry less about the engines as they will last forever, they are only turning a hydrolic pump and arent under much pressure, never had any probs with the engines. worry more about the build quality of the splitter, both of the above are built very well, some others are not as lucky...... you get what you pay for!!! imo
  21. 360/361....same saws with small differences!!! imo
  22. how did you manage to insure the wood????
  23. well i'll support the 361, its all ive used for 8 years now and would still be on my first one if had'nt got pinched. good alround saw, light and easy on fuel. 18" bar is ideal as not to long to sharpen when hit metal or stone in wood. good luck with your choice, but it is all personal preference
  24. will that really get you through the winter???
  25. nowt wrong with softwood, i,v got some customers who specificly ask for it. Best firewood you can get is what you get for free, 2nd best is the driest!!!!!!! larch, cedar and pine are great to burn in a stove, spruce maybe not so good but does give off good heat. as timber prices rise....and they are reaching record levels, then choices will change, after all its all about money
