  1. what do you wear when you kayak surf? is it a dry suit or wetsuit and kag?
  2. nothing wrong with bone dry softwood, gives good heat i sell fresh wood for £50-55/m3
  3. could'nt fit into a Z.one, but managed to get a pyranha I3 in exchange for some firewood. looking to do kayak surfing though and currently doing 2* training
  4. steve, i charge £65 for a m3, 2 other companies by me charge £75/m3 i'll charge what i think i can get, but in jan when i have dry wood i can charge what i like i have bought in 75 ton of softwood this year, processes and dries quicker, sell a little cheaper..............and in jan when its all that is dry, sell for what i want i work hard for my money, so i want good money, IMO i think you are a little on the cheap side with your price! put your price up, if it dont sell by end dec i'll be surprised, if you still got it in feb it'll be the driest wood around
  5. hmmmm, if only i could get paid like that!!! you the man Dave, you the man:001_cool:
  6. i can relate to the above, but some do ask me if can give them a basic training lesson, and yes they are going to go and do it ayway. i would like to weld, but would not use one withoult being shown first, i dont want to a full course, as i only need to do small occasional stuff. but i want to be safe. this is the same as most of my customers (for chainsaws, not welding)
  7. yep. thats why i see a money making opertunity. its just the libility thing that i see as a mine field.
  8. i agree, but there will come a time when they stop using it. if no ppe then does it matter??????????
  9. why not stick a hook loader on it for good measure too
  10. to be honest dave, if they cant use the saw safely and wear the right gear, then i aint gonna teach them how to sharpen it
  11. phwoor. now your asking, i would think it depends ont the brand of splitter, most sales agents should be able to tel you
  12. it will also run a kindla or splitter from fuelwood, but does need to be 20lt/pm like huck said
  13. the thing is they still go and buy a chainsaw, when i ask them if they got the ppe they say no, it'll be ok. i'll be careful. i reply with... so how much can you buy a new leg for then???
  14. thats the thing though steve, i do know how to use a chainsaw and have trained before,
  15. i know this will stir up some issues, but what the hey! whilst delivering firewood i often meet customers who have bought a chainsaw (one even has a ms660) and have no ppe and no idea on the safe use of one. i will not deliver un-cut wood in lengths to these people unless they get or have the ppe, i even tell them they should get some training. now this is where the issue starts. they quite often ask where and how much it would cost, then they ask me if can give them some basic training!! my question is where do i stand with this as they are not looking for a qualification or NPTC, but just want to be safe after i scare them with the chainsaw boot i put a saw through. (foot was not in it at the time, i did it to show customer what i can do) obviously i can see a potential to make some money here and get wood cut up at my yard at the same time, but i can also see the potential here for claims to start what do you think??
  16. 32,000 i rekon
  17. no, i ment 6 wheeler with grab cos i wanted you guys to know there was a crane on the truck.......should've said that in the first place:blushing:
  18. ed you will need a processer of some sort to cut the timber into the exact right lenght to fit in the splitter/kindla for it to work right otherwise you will have a lot of ringing up to do
  19. if you dont mind me asking, how much do you buy in cord wood at??? had a chap ring me up and offer me cord wood of mixed size hardwood delivered in for £40 +vat. i told him that was too much, he replied with... well firewood prices have shot up recently and you comand good money for it. i replied with...it only goes up cos you guys keep puting your prices for wood up so we just pass the cost on to the customer. he would deliver 20-25ton on a 6 wheeler with grab now i buy in softwood at 27 ton which arrives on a 6 wheeler with 4 wheel drag am i being conned here with the weight?????
  20. nice barn! what tractor is that??
  21. This is remarkably funny. Because sadly, its true! going round by email, just recieved it Isn't THIS the truth! GOD: Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistle and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colours by now. But, all I see are these green rectangles. ST. FRANCIS: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers "weeds" and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass. GOD : Grass? But, it's so boring. It's not colourful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees; only grubs and sod worms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there? ST. FRANCIS : Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn. GOD: The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy. ST. FRANCIS : Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it - sometimes twice a week. GOD : They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay? ST. FRANCIS: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags. GOD: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it? ST. FRANCIS : No, Sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away. GOD : Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And, when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away? ST. FRANCIS : Yes, Sir. GOD : These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work. ST. FRANCIS: You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it, so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it. GOD: What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn, they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. It's a natural cycle of life. ST. FRANCIS : You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away. GOD : No! What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose? ST. FRANCIS : After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves. GOD: And where do they get this mulch? ST. FRANCIS : They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch. GOD : Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for us tonight? ST. CATHERINE: "Dumb and Dumber", Lord. It's a story about.... GOD: Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.
