  1. That doesn't sound good. The drum has been an excellent purchase. Only stopped it once when it dragged the last bit of wood through on auto feed but didn't have the revs to chip it. Easily unblocked though. Have you still got the Bandit or did you chop it in on something else? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Just purchased the app too. First time I've used one of these Tapatalk type apps but so far so good. Heaps faster than normal. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Had the neighbours using a log splitter until 9pm one night so they were repaid with me cutting down and chipping my other neighbour's suitably proportioned Banksia. Despite their name, Whisper chippers are NOT quiet. To be honest, what with people mowing lawns, strimming, DIY etc a quiet Sunday is a rarety these days.
  4. For the Council - Arborist, supervisor. For myself - Director, owner operator, arborist.
  5. Heard of the story about the tortoise and the hair?
  6. May well be worth going in, speaking to your branch manager and asking him to cut some of the fees. A lot of the NZ banks will drop certain fees if you have the balls to just go in and ask them but most people just accept what they are charged.
  7. Got to say David, I was pretty stoked to see these Elms. I had a little bit to do with the DED eradication in Auckland but most of those trees were pollarded. The ones in Taupo are crackers. It was a shame to even touch them but apparently the tents, marquees and caravan thingies of the "artists" performing at the concert are far more important than some silly old trees.
  8. Just a quick check; fortunately we don't have the Elm leaf beetle in NZ. We do however have DED. I believe it's contained to Auckland and they have quite a proactive program up there but occasionally there's a fresh outbreak.
  9. Cheers David, we have a few of them in the park. No sign of any issues down in Taupo with any kind of Beetles on these fortunately. In fact, they're two of the healthiest trees in the park. We do however have issues with gum leaf skeletoniser, or so we think.
  10. I'll match that 30C day of yours Adam. Stinking hot here and still didnt get a swim in the lake. Nothing major work wise but lifting some trees in Riverside Park ready for a concert and came across a couple of nice Elms. Forgotten what a decent sized Elm looked like as most of them were being felled when I was last in the UK.
  11. You take for granted how poop free our reserves are in NZ. It's illegal to let your dog foul in the reserves and doggy bags are freely available and replenished regularly. Occasionally you'll get one here and there but more so at the base of trees on streets from strays. One of the worst things is being side swiped by an encrusted, caked branch as its dragged through the chipper. How's the LJ compare to the SJ silky? Be interested to find out how they compare to the zigzag.
  12. What's wrong with it, out of curiosity? We have a 990 drum and its a fantastic bit of kit.
  13. Matai, purriri, and a few other natives. Melts fire grates and boxes.
  14. Interesting one this. I work six and half days a week. I don't answer the phone after 6pm, just let it go to answer phone. My good clients know that if they need to talk to me urgently to leave a message and ill get back to them straight away, otherwise it can wait until the morning. Same applies for Sundays although I'm often out quoting on a Sunday. Because I work two jobs I need time to myself at some stage, hence not answering calls after 6pm. It doesn't seem to affect the amount of work I get and more and more people seem happy to contact me via email or text which solves much of the problem anyway. I'm sure if I was full time self employed again and in need of work, sales etc though, I'd be answering the phone no matter what time. Beggars can't be choosers.
  15. View from Crowther Terrace in Taupo Morty. The customer thought it was a good day for standing on an orchard ladder topping Pittosporum hedges
  16. Bank holiday today but I'm still working. View from today's job. Just another sucky day with crappy weather
  17. Welcome to the mad house. Can I ask where you studied?
  18. You forgot to mention the heat stroke, heat exhaustion, bull ants, meat ants, massive spiders, funnel webs, Taipans, Brown snakes, King snakes, Jelly fish, sharks, crocodiles and MASSIVE trees. Did I mention the MASSIVE trees?
  19. As it happens Silky, I found a little place in Taupo that sells a good selection of Ciders along with a couple of nice Perrys. Have to settle for some Montieths crushed Apple Cider that's chilling in the fridge at the moment but it goes down just a little too easily
  20. Just a bit more salt on those wounds eh.
  21. You can bet that if you it posted on arbtalk, EVERY man and his dog would have a different theory on how to change the bulb.
  22. Fortunately, our local redneck power supplier has a better line clearance policy than the big city slickers in Auckland so power outages are a rarety down here The down side is having to put sprinklers on every night to prevent everything drying out. And the fact that evrything becomes a dust bowl. Still, aint freezing me particulars off so I shouldn't complain.
  23. BBBBRRRRRRRRRR is all I can say. Glad I don't have to work in those conditions anymore.
  24. Today from my back yard.
  25. Sorry to rub it in guys but there's not a cloud in the sky today. Beautiful cool evening so nice sleeping conditions rather than that muggy, stifling weather. Had the lawn mowed by 10.30am and now to finish off my paperwork before I take the mutts a walk. Singlet and shorts weather, expecting around 26C to 28C
