  1. I spotted polyporus growing out of a pruning cut on a beech this morning which is bad news for the tree if the tennants spot it because they have been wanting it down for years:001_smile:
  2. Yes they did say that. When you get big trees like i have here you look after them and keep them as long as possible. I fell them after the last leaf has fallen.
  3. Yes that is the point, think of all the joe publics cutting with blunt saws and no ppe they just need a freindly arbman to give a talk and they would keep safe. All they need to know is about the saw and ppe. I will tell you a funny story a man in the village came to see me with his chainsaw and said hey mr woodman can you sharpen my saw he used it all the time and had never sharpened it i said this chain looks a bit dry he said what do you mean i said there is no oil on it, he had never put oil in it since brand new:stupid:
  4. Thanks, I would like to do cs33. I fell large trees all the time but still nice to have the tickets. I have been on a list at otley but no one does this ticket so can never get 4 people together.
  5. I did a talk on safe use of a chainsaw to the local small holders association. It was to men and woman who as you say had chainsaws and used them for firewood only, none of them had ppe but the people that live near me now all have helmets and trousers. None of them had heard of kickback and wanted to buy a helmet i also printed a chart i have with the places you get caught with the chain and if you have this chart you will see mostly on the legs. No one at the talk sharpened the chain forcing the chain as it was not sharp. I think if you do this a talk is what you want to do not a course. Anyone useing a chainsaw should know the dangers and at least how to sharpen.
  6. Ive seen some good bowls turned in monkey puzzle. I have some yew but it is a whole trunk.

  22. Well thank you, you have answered one question. I have got a HC with what i thought was BC but it stinks but lee it seems to be a very big deal as all the bark is falling off and it seems to be girdling the tree getting worse every year:001_smile:
  23. Here are three saws. Picture 1 is 6 foot 4 inches. Pictures 2 and 3 are 5 foot 4 inches.
  24. Hi ben as you know we have a deer park and i wanted to put in a deer leep but they said no. There used to be one the old keeper remembered it. The thing is the stags outside are in such good condition and large and would bring in new bloodline. I am busy tidying up ready for three big events in the park.

  25. I have a row of red oaks with the same no real targets so they will stay for now may fell when the buttress gets real soft:001_smile:
