    ms 460

I love my 441 compared to my old 440 it feels much quicker and easier to start. Put a smile on my face when i first started her up. Ive never used a 460, as i got a 660 and 880. I have heard good things about the 460 though
  3. Guess which tree i had to take down! I should be arrested! A beautiful old Mulberry I have had loads of similar requests from owners.
  4. Honey fungus, i checked these trees several times over at least 2 yrs and never saw any fruiting bodies of any kind?
  5. Yes it did look pretty. Some wretch stole all the wood over night. Salcombe, one of the wealthiest places to live yet this is the 3rd time ive had wood pinched overnight. Never happened to me anywhere else!
  6. I am sure i ve seen similar on arbtalk. After and before shots! I monitored these for a couple of years, they just got progressively worse. decided to remove in the end. Got a few more that are heading the same way too
  7. its probably not going to be stuck in a fork is it!?
  8. havent we all! volume of chip usually catches me out
  9. Nice to see proper craftsmanship. Proper job. How many hours went into that side board?

    My arb dog

sorry to hear that. Get out and get another one quick.
  11. what about just welding on an old wood chipper blade
  12. My TO is getting very fussy about this recently. I had a simple crown lift to 4m, all of it was regrowth from previous pruning wounds. Refused. Had to be more specific and list every branch! They had a complaint from a town councillor who 'loves trees' he claimed we would be ruining a local landmark, veteran tree. It was about 50yrs old! It makes me feel really annoyed that the TO listens to these people more than they listen to a tree surgeon. Especially when you have to try to explain to the client.
  13. Thanks for the advice. The decay certainly didnt seem to go very deep at all mainly just bark death with small patches of white rot. I cleared lots of rhodos from the back half of the tree which did look like it was causing a lot of the bark death as the dead bark was only evident directly beneath where the rhodo was touching the stem of the tulip? No major targets.
  14. Never seen one quite like this before, i cleared a load of rhodo from behind this tree to find all the dead bark and associated fungi any ideas whats going on?
  15. ive just bought a new 441 and i like it, seams to have more power than the 440 i was replacing, it starts first pull from cold which is fantastic, very unlike my new 550 which seams very erratic to start which is really annoying especially when up a tree. The chainbreak is also smooth and easy to operate also very unlike the 550
  16. yea i know if they really want it they will get it. Is any chain disk cutter proof? I think they just measure it in how long it takes to cut through it. i have had a trailer stolen before. insurance wanted anchor and chain fitted so i just found the best chain i could to do the job. Lincmaster wheel clamp fitted also. I think it was a 1m chain?
  17. its almax 19mm security chain. just google it. the company have been mentioned on arbtalk before. ment to be bolt cropper proof
  18. Just incase anyone is interested. Decided not to use one of the bolt down type of anchors as i didnt want it sticking up and you have to use the chain in a ring effectively halving its length. so i dug up my concrete floor, used a bit of old 9" underground pipe, drilled holes in it at right angles to each other, put 20mm rebar through hole in pipe, through link in chain and through otherside of pipe. So 3 lengths of rebar through 3 chain links. Probably about 2ft under the ground. concreated this all back in with a water tap box on top, so the chain and lock can be stored under the lid. chain and lock came from allmax chains i think
  19. Also forst do now advertise in the column on the right. quite a good website.
  20. I think the price for the first was a special intro price of 21kish plus vat (another 1k later) quadtrak is 26inc and including trailer which is 2.5k. so a similar price. But its performance I'm really interested in. i have had a demo but stupidly was taking down a lime that day so no test at all.

    Day rates..

£420 a day trying to up it to £450. I tell all my clients what i charge per day especially on the jobs which im not too sure how long they are going to take. find it fairer to me and client. Most clients want to know how long the job is going to take so its not going to be rocket science to work out my day rate. All my work is by word of mouth, no adverts at all. I get in another local pair when needed, he charges me £300 a day, which i tell him is ridiculously too cheap, especially for someone who is as good as (or as bad) as i am.
  22. thanks for the one, non-dealer reply! wooded. an offer of a used quadtrak has come up 4 16k with 300 odd hours o the clock. another decision to make!
  23. i thought you might say that. i have had one on demo a while back and it was better than i was expecting. just interested in other user opinions.
  24. im in the market for a new tracked machine and have narrowed it down to these two, just cant decide between them. i think the first will last longer and hold its value more but the turntable option on the greenmech with similar weights is mighty tempting. imo the less turning with a tracked machine the better. any opinions welcome
