We import most if not all of our structural softwood timber - sadly it grows better in Poland Norway etc and is harvested more profitably. Great news on Jons project, i hope it achieves but often these schemes are a well meaning tax loss in the end. Glad we lead in innovation and ecology in UK but it always seems small scale compaired elsewhere. K -

@rharrison it's hard work ? but my advice would be find a good mentor who knows his stuff. Do a few days with various tree companies and see how it feels. K

Eloquently put Kev, the his dinner is bigger than mine is from childhood and our hippocampus jumps at any slight or desire. Motivating yes but in modern civilisation a nightmare. K ( still enjoying the pace on this thread now *tumbleweed n dust covered handbags in other corner* )

..... In fact, you could almost take that as a Tree Planting Program for UK ( if that million tree planting ever happens) i didnt include Cherry spp as, much as i love them they are high maintenance growth rate and root problems ( plant em only in parkland) Beech are fab but very soil sensitive. ...... Oh an rest of gaps, just fill in with Sitka spruce..... ? K ( That last one was fr Big J ) -

Sycamores are great fr Bats, but they have taken over in most of SE and all that stupid N. Maple planted by Councils in 1970s was big mistake. I would like to see more Yew ( long lived and mechanically bomb proof) Sorbus ( conservation value but short lived) Oaks obviously. Scots fr Red squirrel. F. Maple for shelter belts. K -

Yr absolutely right an dont start taking me for some ' British Trees fr British Land' nob end ? but there is a large number of trees planted in poor locations and a poor choice, that focusing off Leylandii and L. Plane cant be bad. Planting traditionally found species is less fraught as exotic ornamentals have brought a lot of P & D to this land. ( glad yr back / alive / still talking to me ? ) K -
THIS actually happened to me ? guy saw me working at side of road with other blokes of bosses arb crew and rang his mate the boss up asking 'why he had a p******* working for him ' ( I go very brown in summer ) astonishing wot people will think. I don't work very long with a company I find out are Racists....... K

I would personally use tree radar on the offending locations. But good principle. K

@Youngstu no it never does suprise me neither, but page after page of vociferous counter-arguement to what ever anyone posts, does cover up the lack of positive tree-based postings on a Forestry and Arb website. And a racing cert we will get volumes more - ad infinitum. K ( AM one of those retard BLM protesters and Terrorist sympathisers noted previous - supporting such as Nelson Mandela - you know, that terrorist M.Thatcher hated cos he was thorn in side of South Africa )

First job is an Eco survey including the trees. Be insurance for you in case a Protected species is resident, bad news if you roar in there with a mulcher vehicle n cllapse a Badger sett . Anything on paper is a good start , regarding yr Duty of care in Conservation areas. Tha' knows. K
