  1. The local Turkish grocery shop has Afghan, Turk and Arab staff and is open 6 days a week from 7am to 10pm The French one opposite works a 5 day week from 9am-6pm Same in the U.K, immigrants strive to better themselves with hard work and family values. Hard for many to see past the accent or skin colour at times. I've never heard a Frenchman say to me "Let's work through lunch so we can knock off earlier" Instead, I have had subbies down tools regardless at 12 and drag their heels back at 2... Happens only once though, only once... Ty
  2. Hah, good read that link! Far easier to pick on an 87 year old sarcastic person than to drive into a camp of travellers and search for stolen goods. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSHaCzb3yYk]Father Jack says sorry! - YouTube[/ame] Ty:001_rolleyes:
  3. I can tell you one reason immigrants work well. They can't understand enough language to have chit chat and are often put upon and blamed when things go wrong. So they generally keep to their work rather than lean on their shovels. I know this to be true as I am an immigrant:001_rolleyes: Ty
  4. Morning, Those will go off like a rocket next year if well planted and mulched. No worries there, got yourself a bargain. Ty
  5. Morning, Yes, I work with a partner BUT that just means you can't tell him what to do as he is French... The other guys I employ are all self employed in their own right but the government is trying to put a stop to that too. France is complicated in all things and you'd be 4 stops short of West Ham to think about coming here looking for 'The French Dream' Ty
  6. Probably the work of an unmarried male in his forties...? Ty
  7. Across the channel, the rule of thumb is this. If you pay a guy 10euros (just above the minimum wage) You need to charge him out at 30euros. 90% of the salary is paid to the government in National insurance (French version of and pension included) Then you've monthly admin, employee insurance, daily restaurant (we all eat in one, it is france after all), PPE, holiday, SICKNESS, breakages cos you can only afford a F'Kwit... THEN...legal fees getting rid of the lazy swine when he sues you for making him work in the rain and cold (gainst me 'uman roights...) Ty
  8. Or even the work of a 3D printer...? Ty:001_rolleyes:
  9. Here: Chinese Wood Carver Zheng Chunhui Wins Guinness World Record for Giant Carving Sorry, this is becoming a habit I know but THIS time is really is interesting! Ty
  10. Here: BBC News - 'Lumberjill' memorial unveiled in Dalby Forest Ty
  11. Here: Barking... the tree that looks like a dog | Nature | News | Daily Express Mad eh? Ty:biggrin:
  12. Hello, I value my clients and want to keep them happy. I would consider double time plus travel at same rate to be fair. A client is likely to view this as normal for a tradesman. In an emergency, people pull together and a professional gesture such as not overcharging or even doing it for your normal rate for an important client 'may' pay dividends in the future. Regards
  13. Renault you meant of course. Ty
  14. I imagine your 'victim goes to work to earn a coin NOT to be treated as if he was a skinny 14 year old at the back of the class. Are you adult professionals, those who do the teasing? or just over grown teens with poor etiquette and social skills. Python, you seem to be the agent of your own doom here. If you want the team to work well, then lay off the bullying (yes, that's what it is if it's not appreciated) and stop others from behaving in this manner too. Ty
  15. Your too fat to work hard under a Southern sun anyway...hhh! Ty:001_tt2:
  16. Ad advert here down in the Dordogne for those thinking about making a life here. Worth a punt perhaps. Wood Chipper & Work For Sale: AngloINFO Dordogne Regards Ty
  17. I say take it! I've just planted 20 x 120cm plants, field grown, semi bare root, that cost me 12.50euros each. Mulched heavily afterwards.
  18. Yes, that's right about the chains. At what point is it viable? We are trying to hammer out a budget for 2014 and need to look carefully at costs. Regards Ty
  19. Hello, Could I ask you guys a few things. First one is a bit subjective. 1. Over the course of a year, how much would using Aspen and Veg oil over regular mineral stuff be worth? Aside from the extra cost to a business (negative point) how can I justify the value of using these products against the value of long and short term health? Also the positive value of using it machines. Help me in my argument please, I'm trying to persuade an unbeliever. 2. How much saving is there in making up your own chains taking into account the tools required to do so? I intend to print off a few (if any) comments keeping them anonymous to present at a meeting. Thanks in advance Ty
  20. Ty We have a minimum charge we 'try' to stick to of 150euros We can move a lot of waste and we can move fast, that's another of our advantages locally plus we are in with the local tips as it's us who have the contract for landscaping them.
  21. Hmmmn, £360 inc vat is 420euros ttc. One climber and a 16 year old work experience boy turned that over today for 2 pops whilst the other team of one man and a grinder did much the same on 9 stumps. You guys are on short rations all right.
  22. I won't tell you what I'm charging out at these days but I have just bought a new tractor, flail, stone burier, log splitter with 2400m2 of land and buildings due to sign for. Oh, I make pricing errors all the time BUT in general I'm winning. I think a key thing is to run smart keen kit and turn it around regular to reduce down time and not worry too much about what the others are charging as some clients like to shop up market even with tree work. Ken Shabby Tree Lopping running a 20year old Tramshoite and KrapChip combo but may price cheap but also look cheap and like he hasn't got a days work in him. Clients don't always go for the least expensive quote. Communicate, re-contact, offer to negotiate even but not by much, don't devalue your services. I'm aiming high and it seems to be working alright. Regards Ty
  23. 20k per toe... Now that's a retirement plan! Ty
  24. Mike Warner, lives on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland. [email protected] You'll need to supply decent images unless you want crappy library stuff and he will work with you in real time online whilst on the phone to help you build the site to your spec. Works evenings, busy man too. Regards
  25. Hmmn, I've encountered this problem before now and have been well done over so ALL my quotes now go like this. The client crosses out the ones they don't want, signs the quote and send it back scanned or by post. To 'dismantle' oak, cross cut 'larger' wood to no larger than 50cm and chip smaller branches, all arisings left on site. Option 1. Stump grinding to at least 20cm below soil level. (Does not include root system) Option 1a. Re-instating area to lawn. Option 2. Log splitting Option 2a. Stacking wood in area discussed. Option 3. Removal of wood chips and waste only. Option 4. Removal of all wood, wood chip and waste. The options work well because often we give the client the chance to undertake some tasks to save money like sweeping up after we've gone or giving the chip/wood to friends. No ambiguities, it's all clear for BOTH parties. Regards Ty
