  1. Yep theres even one company around here who uses that as there slogan
  2. Can we please not turn this thread into an argument over one handed chainsaw use.
  3. Why whats the big prob with them?
  4. Erm I dont seem to be able to edit my post so can all those who vote please vote on where you had the accident and also with what type of saw . Thanks
  5. There are multi choices but maybe I should have put top handle in tree or rear handle in tree in poll I'm guessing most in tree would be with top handle, ah well hopefully a pattern will emerge .
  6. I was just wondering how many of us have not only had chainsaw cuts but how they did it. I've had a few in the past but thank god none recently. I hope this poll works:confused1:
  7. Lol too true, imagine the fear you would have to suffer trying to work after that.It would be a coincidence that my day rate had gone up to £700 a day while I couldnt work due to my van being compounded
  8. Great this isnt it! Mr Ed takes the time to speak to someone from the EA who basically tells us that all tree surgeons WILL need a license then with a bit of searching about others have came up with conflicting evidence in writing Not having a go at anyone here but I think someone from the EA needs to see all of this thread and put some iron clad words on paper. If there is a chance that someone from the EA or the local police can stop me, compound my truck and stop work then wtf are we supposed to do?
  9. Ooops Ah well maybe I can ask for a refund on my license then
  10. What is the stance on woodchip? Looks like you found a nice valuable piece of info there
  11. Shows what a complete waste of time tpo's and tree officers are. Ok I'm not taring you all with the same brush so please dont take offence but you gotta admit that was a very poor effort by the LA.
  12. I see Monkeyd has had his fracture pruning work aired on BBC1 atm

    new tree

Japanese maple, no good for future work but look nice and stay small. Or a bonsai
  14. Cheers for the help and info fellas, I failed to mention that I have already bought one I just wasnt too sure on how to set it up properly. I'll have a mess about with it and I'll look out for what Mark b said about the lead line jumping off. I could allways do some modifications on it since I'm handy with a welder
  15. Bits of paper dont mean a thing and time served also doesnt mean a thing. I've seen tree lads (loosly phrased) who have been in the game for 15+ years and still dont know how to do a proper job. I've also seen lads who have had the miniumum amount of training (to get there NPTC) and you can tell that they have the enthusiasm skill and knowledge to be very competent tree surgeons. Like everything it takes time to become a professional but you have to being doing it right from the start.
  16. With ease mate. When it happens its that quick you dont really know about it.
  17. "microbusinesses" I like that think ill use that word more often I'll have to see if I can give them a bit of input since I think Skyhuck should definately be paying for each and everyone of his trees imagine the about of waste he's producing every year!
  18. I thought i had better get out of the stone age and try out one of those new fangled lowering thingies Although I've used one before subbing, we guessed on which way the rope is supposed to wrap anround and feed through the portawrap. Its this one http://www.abbeypro.co.uk/lowering-hardware/flying-capstan-and-portawraps/showitem-AE150A1.aspx Now although I can use it I would rather be using it properly,so, does anyone have a photo or diagram on how its supposed to be used? I've had a good search about on here and the tinterweb but nowt! Any help please.
  19. Read about that as well, nasty accident but god knows how he managed to completly sever it:confused1:
  20. I was supposed to be reducing a beech today but the bad weather got the best of me It would probably end up looking like pic2:blushing: either that or fell it, some people just wont listen and I cant afford to be loosing work over it!
  21. All this stuff about exemptions is bafling me:confused1: I have about 4 different places i take chip to so I would need an exemption for each one! Then every time I chip on site I need one for that! Brilliant, leaving chip on site ids the best thing you can do for the environment, no transport running costs, no extra fuel being wasted,no possible land fill and we then have to do more paper work (worse for the environment again) and then pay a fee ridiculus. I would like to see how the lads on the railways, power lines and motorways would be dealing with that! Do you get an exemption for the entire M6

Why do you have an 020 in your avatar? was the Husky broken
  23. Gotta disagree with all that :thumbdown:tbh very underhanded IMO Did your boss have 8 specimen scots in his garden? If not he should plant some instead of preaching to other people.
  24. You could possibly get it tig welded, or you could maybe try this stuff http://www.aluminiumrepair.co.uk/html/hts-2000_technical_info.html Either way your gonna have to strip it down, I bet a case wont cost more than about £90-100.
