  1. yeah right, there are tens of thousands of mature trees like this growing next to walls in cities, towns and villages all over the UK, you think we should remove them all? This story is about the stupidity of North Yorkshire County Council and how local authorities in general waste millions of £s in tax payer's money. Scarborough Borough put a TPO on this tree after local concern was voiced about the needless loss of such an important landmark within the village, yet North Yorkshire County Council decided to fight that decision........why???? Why are North Yorkshire County Council so determined to have this tree removed? so much so that they spend £250,000 on legal fees fighting to have it felled? is there some kind of personal vendetta going on?
  2. big deal, the consultant was being paid by North Yorkshire County Council, how objective was his report? any halfwit can say the tree needs removed because it will eventually begin to interfere with the wall. an imaginative arb consultant would've suggested practical solutions, not 'fell tree'
  3. North Yorkshire County Council and an Arb Association Registered Consultant, they both think this tree needs to be removed urgently due to it's potential to push the wall and its roots ingressing into to a sewer drain. NYCC have spent £250,000 in legal fees to get this tree felled. Interested to know how many people here (firewood suppliers not included ) think this tree needs to be removed urgently?
  4. Pete, How much experience do you have of working on large trees?
  5. Pete, Thanks for the post. I realise you've spent a bit of time and effort on this issue, but with respect your analysis comes across like someone with little or no understanding of the risks and hazards involved in large tree removal. How much experience do you have of working on large trees?
  6. What are the two reports your referring to? It looks like one company did two reports, or one report and one observational visit to comment of crown reduction options? It beggars belief that an Arb Association Registered Consultant should decide the tree needs removed on account of natural incremental growth leading to direct damage to the wall. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Arb Association's motto 'cares for trees'? What about suggesting a solution other than felling? move the wall, create a space in the wall for the tree to grow? .
  7. Here's the details - https://www3.northyorks.gov.uk/n3cabinet_area/ycoastmoors_/reports_/20110831_/10mainstreetirt/10mainstreetirt.pdf In May 2006 the tree frontagers brought to the attention of North Yorkshire County Council various problems associated with a mature beech tree, situated within the highway verge and immediately abutting the property’s masonry wall. Problems included root ingress in to the domestic sewer, damage to the masonry wall and nuisance caused by tree sap debris and bird droppings. moving a domestic sewer pipe is a very simple and relatively cheap job in comparison with spending £250,000 on a court case. As for the sap and bird droppings - whoever made them an issue needs a major reality check. .
  8. update, 'snoz' is still up the tree - BBC News - Mark Snow urged to abandon Yorkshire tree protest
  9. Great fell but.... The problem with his 'even holding wood' is that a small amount of decay on one side of the hinge will send that tree 10s of ft out of intended direction of fell (even with a parallel hinge and perfectly balance straight tree) which could mean the client's house being destroyed. It's a rare thing to have happen but I've seen first hand on a straight Silver Fir fell a few years ago.....tree deviated from intended direction of fell due to decay on one side of the hinge - the tree narrowly missed a house. The guy doing the felling had failed to notice a column of decay on one side of the tree at felling height. Interesting that the 14 ft space the guy's felled the tree into was between a fence and a shed, wonder if they would've taken the risk had the shed been a $500,000 house.
  10. Total respect for these villagers trying to save this old Beech. North Yorkshire County Council has wasted £250,000 of tax payers money in legal fees trying to get it felled due to the roots obstructing drains.........some guy has climbed the tree to stop the felling, good on him. BBC News - Row over old beech tree in Irton costs £250,000
  11. looks like it to me
  12. mining is the toughest job on the planet
  13. From here - TreeBuzz Board: ISO pic of XT hitch Some detailed description in the thread. pics etc
  14. On 9/11 in the year of our lord 1297 the forces of Andrew Moray and William Wallace defeated the combined English forces of John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey and Hugh de Cressingham near Stirling, on the River Forth. We will never forget.
  15. Have you seen them work on trees like this before?
  16. when Massive Attack were writing Mezzanine, the guy who wrote the harpsicord piece for Teardrop wanted Madonna to sing the vocals, but the other two guys in the band wanted Scottish singer Liz Fraser, they thankfully got their way and the rest is history. There you go, learn something new everyday nice vid Josh. [ame= ] [/ame]
  17. From similar diam Beech trees I've felled I would put its age somewhere between 200 and 300 years old.
  18. Here's the facts - in school the headmasters and teachers have the authority, by siding with your kid over such an pathetic issue you and the rest of those parents have severly undermined the headmaster and teachers authority This means you and the rest of those parents are adding to the problem of lack of respect within society. Dont try and claim the moral highground because your son's wrist band represents a worthy cause. Charity wrist bands are nothing more than a fashion statement, a few years back everyone was wearing Cancer Awareness wrist bands, where are they now? No-one is wearing Cancer Awareness wrist bands these days, why's that??? Have we found a cure for Cancer?? No, but the wristbands that were once in vogue at are now out of fashion. In reality people really didn't care that much about Cancer Awareness otherwise they'd still be wearing the wristbands. If you and your son stand by your words your son should wear that wrist band for the rest of his life. But he wont will he? one day he'll wake up and say, 'I can't be bothered with this wristband anymore and chuck it in the bin'. Then you'll sit and reflect on your childish decision to support your son's right to wear a 'charity' wristband in school.
  19. Your kid should've done what he was told, end of story. Wrist bands - get a grip on reality for christ's sake. Headmaster tells him him not to wear it, he shouldn't wear it and you as an adult should be supporting the headmaster, what's wrong with you? The main problem in British schools is not the headmasters or teachers its over sensitive parents whining on about your kid's rights to whatever the hell they want. No wonder this country in a mess when headmasters and teachers get no support from parents.
  20. Notice in this vid how Dadio seems to be blaming himself for the felling going badly wrong but is really blaming his skidsteer driver. What kind of a person slags off his fellow worker on the internet? Daniel films his jobs, then with the use of hindsight sits at home and fabricates a backstory round the videos, editing and narrating to make the techniques seem plausable. Notice in this video how he says they were gonna be pruning the damaged Cherry anyway...yeah right....lol [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nq9P_ybyE4]miscommunication_can_be_killer.mov - YouTube[/ame]
  21. ....a montage of Daniel Murphy's (dadio) approach to to treework - When he arrives at any job no matter what it is, this is what he sees in his head -
  22. To understand the stupidity of Dadio's techniques people should pause this video at 11.30 mins and analyse exactly what is happening at that moment...... At 11.30 mins we can see the cameraman almost directly in line with the loaded rope which has been tightened almost to the point of failure, to put it simply - it is now essentially...a deadly rubber band as taught as a piano wire. If that rope were to snap at the anchor point in the tree it would probably have enough force to kill the cameraman or at the very least leave the him needing severe facial reconstruction surgery. Many people have been killed by recoiling ropes. Added to that - Dadio is using a Samson True Blue treeclimbing rope which he has deemed fit to be used as a winching cable. What we are witnessing here is someone with very poor knowledge and understanding of forces and equipment - combined with little concern for his fellow workers (the cameraman). [ame= ] [/ame]
  23. the spider is a nice idea the slack tender they've called the 'rope slider'....... Climbing Gear - Rope Slider They're saying this could replace a micro pulley, but it can't be attached midline like a micro pulley (petzl fixe or cmi)
  24. thats a disgrace
