  1. great vid, how are you using the tibloc? couldn't really make it out from the vid?
  2. you've already got one.......it's called Arbtalk
  3. not at the block it wasn't, look again. What I'd call a marlinspike slipknot is tied to stop the working end of his rigging rope running through the block accidently or while he was making his notch/moving the block sling etc. It can only be tied in one direction otherwise it can slip out and down goes your rigging line.
  4. very good, nice slipknot @the block at 2.10, only one way to tie it right when used like that.
  5. Try these guys, bought a Truckman top off them last year, think they carry Truckman spares like locks etc. Mazda*B2500*Hard Tops
  6. this might work as a cheap alternative, think it's available in other colours as well - well black and white anyway. Pretty sure I saw it in B & Q couple of weeks back.
  7. testcricket, thanks for starting the thread, it's created a lot of good talking points on how to approach a job like that. Re the final cuts, are you sure the consultant didn't request cutting back to branch unions at the very least rather than just below the previous pollard knuckles? I'd be checking the report again. Given the circumstances and situation of the tree you did really well. You'd be welcome on my staff any day mate.
  8. What was directly beneath the tree/canopy? any pics? You should have considered the fly jib more, you'd be taking smaller pieces, but it'd be safer. If traffic management didn't turn up then you wont be paying them? so the money you would've paid them can contribute towards the longer crane hire.
  9. your approach to equipment is remarkably cavalier for someone who's supposed to be designing a new gadget for professionals
  10. this may help you http://www.treebuzz.com/pdf/Apr07-cc.pdf and this - http://www.treebuzz.com/pdf/0505_geneology.pdf this also http://www.treebuzz.com/pdf/climbing_hitches.pdf
  11. to me, that statement is unacceptable.
  12. Tree hit by tornado in Kansas, April 2012 Trees pruned in York, April 2012
  13. This pic is for people who want to know what a Lime tree looks like in it's natural state - This pic is for people who want to know what the trees looked like in Hiroshima after the atomic bomb -
  14. compulsory dog surfing - wait for the skatepark section [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqxTUxzOceE]Surfin´ Bulldog (Beach Boys - Surfin´ USA) - YouTube[/ame]
  15. pisspoor tree management
  16. ha ha ha
  17. Do you have any pictures of the whole tree which shows it's vicinity to the house?
  18. The 2 Tonys, you can talk about Neo Darwinism and Rayner's natural inclusion till the cows come home but it wont change anything. You two mistakenly seem to think that science can make sense of an irrational world, but it's feckin chaos out there boys, out there in the real world away from the computer screen. The solution is simple, learn to play a musical instrument and sing about the chaos - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMIlP4zB0EM]Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues (w/ lyrics) - YouTube[/ame]
  19. It goes like this...... a home appliance manufacturer gets backhanders from one or all of the big power companies and subsidies from the government in which they operate, in return the manufacturer adds word's like 'eco cycle' to their machines in order to appease the governments who want to be seen to be promoting 'a greener society', the power companies also win because the end user (you) has been duped into believing your using less power when in actual fact your using the same or more power than the regular cycles/options on the machine. They know people are trying to do their bit for the planet and the shamelessly exploit it. .
  20. Hate to spoil the fun people but cerneARB is absolutely correct on this issue. Its well known that the whole idea of dog RFID chips is a culture softener that makes it very easy to manufacture consent with the general public as Noam Chomsky talks about. Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Once we accept it in dogs it's only natural we'll want one for our children to make them safer, but thats not why it's being done, there is an ulterior motive and if you dont believe it and think this is all a massive conspiracy then you've fallen hook, line and sinker for the government's, corporations and banks propaganda. It's already happening, watch this vid from 7.14 till the end - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuBo4E77ZXo]NORTH AMERICAN UNION & RFID Chip TRUTH! Must SEE - YouTube[/ame]
  21. cheers, will look into it.
  22. Can anyone remember the pic of the arb crew working on London Planes? it was posted on Arbtalk within the last year? they all had facemasks on just wondering what brand was used? If anyone has any other suggestions of good face masks for use when climbing/cutting/chipping/milling etc it'd be appreciated Cheers
  23. good vids - rigging out of a bucket truck really is an art in it's own right, completely different from climbing/rigging. Done many similar trees in similar locations to that tree myself out of bucket trucks so know the pros and cons well. It look really confined and you were having deal with some big timber. Looked like there were some service drops to deal with as well. In the first clip on the first vid I'd avoid being in a situation where the top boom is underneath the rigging line. I know your only re-directing the branch but as a general rule you should try to avoid this scenario. Good work never the less.
  24. Many people dont know that when they look into a mirror what they are actually seeing is billions of 'cloaking' nanobots projecting an image of you back at you. They can do this because they have built up an image of your face over the years since you first looked in a mirror. Next time you go to a mirror go up really close and if you concentrate really hard for about 3 seconds you may see some of the microscopic nanobots doing their thing with miniture digital projectors, actually you'll have trouble seeing them if it's particularly light in the room.
