  1. I think the corrupt developed countries, those within the euro zone, are gonna see many a riot over austerity measures. Corruption is at the root of not only the deficits but discontent at large..... Not good news though is it?
  2. Canal du Midi trees to be felled due to plague - Telegraph
  3. Thanks Gerrit..... After a bit of digging ! Cockroach or Cockchafer? | Vermatech Pest Control News Cockchafer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Tim
  4. Weird...copy cat threads ! I knew there was something funny about this forum ! I got a couple pics which Id like an ID on if atall possible. Looks like an alien nymph...what the hell is it ? Tim.
  5. Glynn Percival has studied and quantified the effects of stress ( leaf minor, bleedin' canker & Guignardia- whu ) on the fruit production ( Sorry- nUT ) and viability thereof in HC.... Whilst industry professionals of repute and standing claim the plight of HC is not threatened...how can a species procreate with unviable seed production ? It cant...can it ! ? Such is the gist of the studies conclusion !
  6. Excuse..I have not read but mostly scanned this thread... This retardant project is motivated by cost cutting within the utilities...Unsurprisingly, (in some ways ) it was being hailed as a sometime victory for arboriculture by Dealga O Callaghan who apparently heads up the push for the programmes' introduction. It is invested in by govt funding ( scarce as it is atm )....yes, that means your tax dollar ! Kinda makes me wish Id gone into some other profession frankly ! Id say with some confidence that trees will not compartmentalise as effectively when under the influence of the hormones...although there is no certainty that growth rates at growing points ( meristematic tissues ie cell division ) will be necessasrily affected by the "drugs " ! Whilst we know with some certainty, the way particular hormones work...we also dont know jack rabbit about the others ! As we know, and dont know I hasten to add.....it is currently needed to be researched if we are to be confident that it can be effectively used...IMO of course !! I find it hard to believe its a good idea....like allicin but worse ! Tim
  7. Okay...Looks that way dont it ! It is worded so as to make you wonder if it applies to S201's ( "may include s201")....I agree tho' if they cant be more enlightening than that....we 're bound to take them at their word Cheers
  8. Ive just been through the relevant section of the blue book for this but found nothing specific re : time limit for confirmation... How long does an LPA effectively get to sit on it's hands and consider the various virtues of confirming a TPO? TIA Tim
  9. As per the title... Our harnesses carry manufacturers markings as well as serial numbers and so on..other items like our ropes (climbing ropes/access lines) may not be as individually marked and yet the information (spec) is easily sought, either online or at the point of sale... What I want to ask... If rigging ropes are required a safety factor of ten (10) What safety factor (sometimes referred to as cycles) do the LOLER regs (1998) require our climbing and access lines meet? ( I know..CE marking and SWL in excess of 100 kgs of actual load..not what I am asking though ) TIA
  10. Sold a coupla months b4 xmas....was a beast. Used to bereakdown alot
  11. Im sure this has been discussed to death but a quick question please... Where are we with respect those changes proposed last year and due to be effective April this year...you know the ones ! Streamlining the process. New model orders...refining DDD to dead & dangerous. Effective immediately..Dont have to tell the world and his wife....etc .? TIA Tim
  12. Good choice Steve o...... This my MT-01 ..been doing a bit of fettling !
  13. Just having a quick search for control methods and the FC are still saying that insecticide is useless, difficult to apply and needs repeat applications......Er.NO.They are still insisting it is aesthetic too...Er NO.....(Again !) According to research from Bartletts, the use of Admire has obliterated the little sh*t and four years on...all's good! I have a question then you lovely people! Anyone else tried the soil application of Admire? ( Imidacloprid) Id be really interested to know how, when and mixtures etc if you would be so kind. PM if you think you can flesh out some details for me....or point in the direction of a paper on it. In particular, I need some input as to dosage (g/Ha etc)when applied to essentially, a single plant ( but BIG area) Tim
  14. Glyphosate (aka Roundup) will kill it.( It does for most things ! ) It is systemic.....It may take a couple applications in my experience !
  15. Hey..Great thread. Welcome Gerrit. We owe a debt of gratitude to your magnanimous offer . Just dont let us take advantage of you ! Ive not been on forum for a bit. I turn my back and Arbtalk delivers ..again ! Good work. Tim
  16. Tech Cert covers this basic info- and more besides re soil infiltration /type soil (macro/micro pores etc )
  17. NHBS | Quick Search - Fungal Startegies if decay in Wood
  18. U need to keep your eye on the software available.....If you dont use any from the choice that arbs have at their disposal..eg Pear Tecnology etc etc WHU...then dont worry. There's plenty out there in the way of Opensource development that allows you use FREE software which will work fine with the majority of the popular applications ( Office/ MSWord/spreeadsheets for example ) There is no substitute for the Tree related software as far as I know.however.. You'll end up needing a windows system for that. Apple are not popular enough I guess, despite their recent surge in sales....Dont have a pc ( Macbook Pro ) Very happy with it. HTH
  19. Good thread...nice catching up ! Cant be arsed to post in the thread named...whatever it was...but I read your post tony re : get out; we all butchers. I share this view and feel strongly . I find many of the sentiments you have expressed variously in forum strike a chord of agreement with my own . Perhaps to my detriment , I have never really felt arsed to argue with the tendency for slagging and "flaming" which was largely unchecked at the outset of this forum...I dont have these problems in the real world.... HOWEVER....If some arb takes a client, tries, using professional training and insight, to represent them for a fee....it falls to the other professionals to use their knowledge to refute claims of safety etc.... What I have a problem with is people using knowledge as a weapon..."i know something you dont, and Im going to profit from it!"- kinda thing. If you tell the client they haven't a hope in hell of getting it felled..its your opinion They can pay you to prepare a report and then have it turned down...Whats the difference? See ya'
  20. You are right to worry IMO...Try lowering it out the tree. Takes a little longer maybe....but the gains make it a bit of a no brainer !
  21. Know your equipment- Know its limits. You also gotta know it's in good condition....the point about knowing your equipment is borne out in the understanding the temps for example that the "characteristics" of a peice of PPE begin to change...It can happen whilst you are using it...maybe 20-30 ft below it. Id say you are at more risk from the anchor point you choose. Make a sloppy decision and the consequences can be fatal !
  22. Pretty much what I figured....Im after a couple tons of non conifer chip (hardwood then ) ...free to a good home if poss. Location NR34 If you can help me out, get in touch. Cheers....
  23. Think that was implied in wildwood's first post tbh...It doesnt have to be....but given a choice, Id obviously ask for a turned ( 8-12mtth old) chip from either a mix of the following or single species type...Syccy, Ash or hawthorn... As this is unlikely ( Have you tried sourcing a mulch? You'll only find a bark based product available basically..certainly there are no businesses who make their business to supply "premium " chip for this purpose.) Kinda why I asked tbh...might be forced to go down the cardboard and straw route !
