  1. Dunno what everhappened to the 'Jokes" forum/thread....this 'll crack you up tho.....! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO-GsDwYwtI&feature=youtube_gdata_player]Plants that go bad - hilarious video of nature - YouTube[/ame]
  2. Of course, it is still the case that common procedure in a case such as this ( ie-on a busy main road ), removal is commonplace; and precisely because it is an unknown quantity.
  3. This tree was stood in a an area of variable risk/occupancy. It was felled . http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/2166-identity-bracket.html#post61550
  4. Im rubbish too but I agree with your Id mate !
  5. Tried running a lower octane fuel in it?
  6. Not directly aimed at you Annie I dont expect treeowners/homeowners to be as aware of the situation as tree professionals but I cant help thinking that the first thing to do is check to see if the tree is protected by any statutory restrictions - ie/ Are you in a conservation area or is the tree subject to a TPO ? If so- permission is likely to need be sought from your local planning dept in the event any kind of work needs carried out There are all sorts of connotations relating to overhanging another's property and such that might allow you to effect works without permission from your neighbour or the council but check first as the aforementioned protections negate these! My advice is try to strike up a constructive dialogue with the owner (neighbour) and suss out the situation Get his permission for further , investigative, assessments and perhaps agree a plan of action that will share costs and leave you happy that its safe and the neighbour clear they have fulfilled their "Duty of care "
  7. Yes- true Also not a problem for Annie I feel Howcan wedescribe the states of Nectria here? I see it white as well as red ( more often red ) and often hirsute when white Different sexual states ?
  8. The "white " bits are lichen I think nothing to worry about ! Or do you mean the fencing fitments ? That's not nice and is a potential court for fungal ingress ! ( Never like to see trees used like this but tis an arborists' lot that we see it alot ! ) Kinda fundammental to the picture that we try and build a picture of canopy loss - it indicates a level of vigor and this is significant !! edit - see now, that view of leaf area looks healthy enough to me guys !?
  9. Sure that canopy is not showing an appropriate, seasonal loss of leaf area ? When was the photo of the tree, canopy and house taken Annie?
  10. I hope they were suitably receptive to the offers of input Gerrit ! How long before the reprint is available, any ideas folks ? Tim

    RIP Marco

Very sad and shocking news ! MotoGP takes another young life, I still cant believe it !
  12. I too think it may be a scale/aphid - hosted here on lime The lime , Im guessing, may not be the typical host Lime is popular- if your a piercing/sucking type organism!
  13. Thanks for the reply fella ! Honestly, I dont mean to be so "down" on it ! So much of what we read in the texts available is increasingly being shown to be either wrong, or as a result of the constant "flux" of the associations currently, not complete/ Is it sensible to take it as anything more than a "snapshot' - a kinda timeframe related statement? So much seems to surprise; host associations, knowledge (certainties) about strategy, climate related migrations and so on ! Im all for it David- I'll seek out a look at the text when I next get the opportunity !
  14. It raised an ironic, inward smile as I read the descrition on the AA site/ Ive lost count of the number of times I read/been told not to rely on photographic evidence to ID, everything from fungi to P&D and stress related conditions ! Even being slated as "armchair arboriculturalist/ And here we are looking at an AA endorsed guide promoting just that process lol ! Talk about double standards huh ?
  15. Actually - my name is top of the list ! This because Ive been trying to pin down the seminar since missing it last year ! (Lonsdale) Barcham's sent notification with directions to call ahead should delegates fail to make the booking/ They are aware of this issue mate! 67 is full capacity and Ive sat in many a seminar- it gets a little packed there and a few non attendees is welcome frankly ! However, I take your point mate and yea, its a shame people cant be a bit more thoughtful when others go to the lengths they do to make this available, for free, with the absolute minimum of fuss or asking for thanks ! Some folk travel quite inordinately long distances across the UK to make these seminars Perhaps at the behest of their employers but all the same, whilst its popular, its a long trek for some folk and I guess there'll always be a few "non-starters" - Have another burger and chill man !
  16. Im quite sure different underwriters will have different policies to one another If the report says "no re-inspection for ten years necessary" and a claim is brought in the nineth year,,,,,,,what then? Again, I think it unreasonable business of the part of the insurer and they should not be advising professional arborists about arboricultural issues (ie-how long ins needed, imo ) It amounts to dictating how and who does business in the arb trade arena Hey, this is becoming a "I hate insurance companies" thread so Ill stop there / Just cos I think they stink doesnt mean Im right Im afraid ! Pick your insurer carefully I d suggest !
  17. They are calling a Tech Cert a Diploma? Or are you attempting a level 6 qual ? Just completed the tech cert myself (my full stop has quit on me,,,,take a breath !! )The Management day was tough gig ! I wish I had been better prepared / My advice, dont study online / It just doesnt deliver /I guess we're all different tho' ?
  18. Ahh Barrell. Yes, Ive heard both he and Mynors before. I was pleasantly surprised by Mynors humor as I anticipated a very dull seminar indeed ! I guess it may have been interesting from both the angle of the professional viewpoints of respective speakers and that so much is "afoot" in the planning and so "treelife" of this here UK...? I recently received an email through the Consulting Arborist Society that seemed to suggest that Lonsdale and Green were due to speak at Barchams....? I missed David Lonsdale last time out and have never heard Ted Green. Is this a definite date would you know ? ( I have it as 17 nov ) cheers Tim Oops -derailing my own thread.
  19. Hello mate.... Mmm. It does mention the yew in its description in the previous sentence I think but I take your point. A research error I imagine...? Bio Security was an issue raised at the TEP seminar recently. Shame we didnt see you Dave...Im sure you had as a good day at Forest Research. Stamets made me laugh and I was trying really hard to be a miserable git !
  20. Just as a point of discussion....I see it a bit like this ! If an action is brought against you ( by the public, or the client ) and this action relies on the report for its grievance...it must be confined to that report and so, the time it was conceived....therefore; the requirement to hold insurance at any other time is not relevant to the report in question or the action by virtue of the fact that it (the action) relies on said report..... I understand that the advice given in ABC text documents takes a different view.
  21. you see now...I think thats just insurers being greedy myself ! If the ins docs state this as a "condition" of the contract, there's not much you can do. My opinion...go ahead and write a report. Regardless frankly.Keep a copy. Include sensible caveats as to the nature and scope of the report and anything else you think pertinent !
  22. Apologies if this has been up already. Its important enough to suffer a second outing Im sure ! P&D.pdf
  23. Hello Matt, Do you have your ABC Tech Cert ? Results aren't out for a bit yet ! Enjoy Arbtalk and welcome mate ! Tim
  24. Plant processes and the timing thereof are controlled largely by two factors I suppose. Temperature, and light. When I say light, I mean, day length ! If you black out the tree thereby keeping the days short, would it not delay the blossom ? Totally untried and tested of course. The thing about not getting pollinated... might it put a spanner in the works if pollination relies on a specific host/insect relationship, if the timing is off?
  25. What ..no-one knows? You lot are useless !!
