  1. Only after a bottle of Absynth
  2. Chainsaws kill and injure more people than shot guns. Statistics are the new rock n roll
  3. There are no statistics on chainsaw injuries in this country. no-one collects them. It's all hear say and fable.
  4. Is this really a good time to be setting up a new business? I get the feeling there's a storm coming(not the 87 variety). If your really looking, the only hidden costs are the ones that aren't financial. Best of luck either way man.
  5. Like that a lot. Up in the tree. Excellent! did it stay there?
  6. An accident each week! Darwin wasn't joking Nuggsy. Take care chap.
  7. enjoyed that. thanks for the link.
  8. Laughing. Better than the chocolate fire guard analogy.
  9. As far as Dean's problem with his disrespctful dog owner. Doggy doo is internal terrorism. It's this countries Timothy McVeigh.
  10. I agree my syntax friend. But Climbing a tree in a woodland or a forest is not disrespect. Indeed you point out it is the property to which respect is owed, not the owner of the property or his right to it. So as long as we show due respect off we go. If climbing a tree is disrespectful to trees, then maybe your in the wrong game. Personally I cant think of any greater respect for a tree then to get up in it's crown and say "how do?"
  11. As far as I know `Basil' did not take the photograph. Don't think he has time to set it up to be honest. look at that list of responsibilities!
  12. Hopefully no-one is talking about any of this superstition with a serious note? If there's a practical reason to not bring a particular wood into a house, or chopping a particular genus of tree down, then let's hear it. Otherwise it's plain silly. Sorry to go on, "just re-educating the world".
  13. Only just picked up on this thread, been away. Blinking heck! We get paid s**t all anyway, so yes donations away! Really hope this comes good.
  14. Lyn Hill free'd the nose about this time, making these aid climbers look silly. But none the less 3000ft is 3000ft.
  15. Films are expensive, go on treat yourself and go digital. But if you want to stick to film (and film is still amazing) Slide is more sensitive to exposure error, but looks great, negs can also scan and simply reversed for a positive image. Nikon and Canon, who are the leaders in DSLR cameras, both make great entry level cameras. I'm a Nikon user, but theres not much difference at any price range.
  16. For me as a rock climber, El Cap is one of the `Meccas', there were climbers, both on the Salathe wall and a couple of groups on the half dome. You had to use big optics to see them. El cap in particular is so big. There was plenty of amazing granite around to keep anyone of any grade happy for eternity. I'd only ever been to LA and New York previously, this was my first chance to have a proper poke about. WE did the classic road trip from Vegas to Death Valley to Yosemite to Tahoe to San fran and down highway 1 to LA. I'm lucky enough to have been to some of the most beautiful places in the world, I can say that California seems to have a monopoly on eye candy. I gotta say also that despite my American prejudices, Every single interaction I had in 3 weeks elicited laughter, common bonds or plain friendliness. Hurrah!
  17. I know. No wonder only 10% of you Americans own passports. I thought Oregon next?
  18. I was there 84-87. Jumped off jeans hall once. Does arb still go to the big Cedar in Brymore? (AG school in the village) My first big tree.
  19. And er.. some more. Sequoia giants! The largest of which lay on the ground. But the biggest standing ones are 3000 years old. While we were there, there was a controlled burn. A felling crew were making safe for the burn crews, some big timber came down. Wow! what a crash! Yosemite valley is stupid beautiful! I was crying with..I don't even know what emotion I felt as we came round the bend and saw el cap, bold as brass just sitting there, a KM high and gorgeous. Highly recommend California. The people are great too. Shot a few nutty guns in Nevada, but that's another story, So's the one in the mexican strip joint.
  20. Hey y'all. Just got back from a road trip through California and Nevada. Here are a few non-Vegas pictures. What a place! Awesome in the classical sense, breath taking in the literal sense. Tis good to be back. I missed the cold and rain in a perverse kind of way.
  21. er..Its better to have tried and failed than not tried at all, surely. or as Homer puts it "if at first you fail...give up"
  22. I like your Grandad's sayings. Have you anymore wisdom from him?
  23. ah, the tactics of a winner. Very wise. I look forward to your fruiting bodies.
  24. Hey Monkeyd, where are your pictures? You were so excited earlier on.
