  1. Thank you. My lady. I am your faithful servant.
  2. It was the corelation between spending money on dogs welfare V's Human welfare that shocks me. But take heart, the difference in the states is even more pronounced. The 75% came from literature in a doctors waiting room, sorry don't have web reference to it. The I robot reference was used to illustrate a point about society's acceptance of something that is wholly not good for it, to take the analogy further I am the Will smith/Jesus character preaching the news. Hey it was a playful thing. Don't run with it.
  3. Not even a picture?
  4. Indeed. Good point.
  5. OOOH hand bags at dawn! If you check through past posts, you will see that was neither a rant or me getting worked up, I do such things comfortably like yawning or blinking. Funny howthe `bless' word has become equal to calling some one a `see you next tuesday'these days. I am thick skinned so I'll let it go. You wanna see me rant? check out mans best friend.
  6. That news will surprise no-one.
  7. Sorry to be all negative about it, but yes, that's a no.
  8. Yes I saw that last night. wow! That's heavy rain alright.
  9. Obviously not, at least not beyond the start. I like Homer Simpsons one...If at first you don't succeed, give up.
  10. Some of my best friends have exactly the same attitude. Which is a very reasonable one IMO. I'm not a supporter of the pet idea because I think it is immoral when so many people are starving. Working dogs are another thing all together, and I tolerate this ownership. Dogs should be so well trained that a child could kick it without it turning on them, not even a growl. Never understood why they are so intensely anthropomorphised. They're just dogs, like a fox is. Yet the fox is less likely to cause damage to the national economy to the same degree. Or rip the face off a 4 year old. (I'm no fox fan either)
  11. In the far east that would be no.6 on the menu.
  12. Dogs are not patriotic, their doo ( I cant use the word I want to because the use of that selection of letters is considered more offensive than the substance it describes) contains a bacteria that causes 75% of diarrhea cases. Which in turn keeps British workers away from work. Thus damaging the national economy. They are carnivorous pack animals. Never to be trusted. We spend more on dogs than we do on African famine. They smell horrible. Their saliva, which they are kind enough to share with kids, contains doggy doo, cos hey they eat it. They can't be taken thank god onto many beaches, you will have to fund this hobby and employ dog sitters. They do not have the capacity for love, they have well adapted survival instincts (cupboard love) People (and this is the worst thing of all) actually think that their dog is more important than my children. Can I eat doo and lick your face? You'd kick my teeth if I did that to you and you'd kill me if I did it to your kids. so why is it cute when these abhorrent creatures do it? Don't get a dog! I robot the book/movie is actually about the enemy within...dogs. And so many are fooled. I really shouldn't sit on the fence so much.
  13. Very healthy thanks. Just checking here without getting too personal; eyes closed, you are saying most women prefer the feeling of rough hands across their soft parts. I must inform the massage industry immediately. seeing as they spend a lot of time trying to preserve soft hands because it feels more sensual. Durex have obviously gone wrong with that lube campaign too. Us men could always gaffer tape sandpaper to our hands for that authentic masculine feeling. I should start reading farmers weekly for sex tips. Christ! I've been going so wrong!
  14. Seeing as 50% of the worlds population is in the tree industry, I'd say that none leave ever. wish they wood sometimes.
  15. Good.Sounds like a good climber. I agrree that those deserving should ern more, but the piecework carrot doesn't encourage anything but fast work. There are so many corners that can be cut by a climber, I don't blame them too much as most are trying to ern a decent about of money in a badly paid industry. A reasonable expectation of what a professional safe and fast climber can acheive in a day is essential for any employer /foreman. This sadly is a very rare thing
  16. I guess that a few things conflict here. Bad weather can be and is part of the mountain experience. The organizers would have postponed it had they been able to predict the severity of the conditions. The MR and police will always (and justifiably) err on the side of caution. Mountain sports do not by definition follow this principle. which is why I choose rock climbing and not football. The organizers would want to provide a challenging and exciting event, but the unpredictable nature of Weather can and does take the most seasoned mountaineer off guard, why not the organizers of this event? I don't know the ins and outs of the conversations between the MR police and the organizers, and some were proven to be wrong others right, hey we all get it wrong at some point. Retrospect is a wonderful thing isn't it. Had the weather not gone crazy arse mad, then the organizers would have been vindicated. Luckily for all the event took place in the relatively easy topography of the lakes.
  17. 1985 just after second and last of the good ones came out. The mean fiddler for 3 hours!! did their entire back catalog twice. we all knew each other by the end. they were really nice guys too. Thanks for this clip, great song.
  18. Hey Bundle 2, you speak much wisdom. The best team I worked with had climbers who did the groundwork. Climbers who do a good mix of both are usually the best at both. Each discipline informs the other. I hate this `us and them' rubbish. I've never worked in an environment where that prevailed and I would leave if it did. As far as suggesting that one job is easier or harder than the other is concerned, that also is ridiculous. the mental intensity of a hard technical climb can not be compared to anything on the ground, conversely the sheer hard slog of a long drag up hill all day long without respite is pure hell. Each and every job determines the lions share of the work. A climber deadwooding will climb all day for a wheelbarrow of chips, snoozing groundsmen all over the place, a willow take down in a field, would destroy the moral of any groundcrew. These conflicts only arise where people don't know what they are doing. A good unit is comprised of sensitive hardworking professionals. Every car driver should have to ride motorbike for couple of years. Every climber should have to do ground work. Every groundsman should have a working knowledge of the climbers Psyche.
  19. That's an interesting idea. Do you know offhand how much an average MR callout with Navy chopper would cost? I have had to rely on MR once before. I was 15. My job in the chip shop wouldn't have paid for it. Mountain rescue are heroic volunteers and I would like to see them paid like retained firemen. But getting the hapless or unlucky mountaineer to pay for it seems a bit extreme. What do your MR mates think about the financial side of rescues? If I was lucky enough to live in the mountains, I would volunteer for sure.
  20. Not sure how I feel about climbers working for piecework. Do you think it would encourage poor yet quick work practises? Presumably, your man there is paid so well because he's quick above all else? Is he also safe and legal? I'm in no way making an asumption here, just interested.
  21. Do you think it was £200 because it was the weekend?
  22. hahaha conflicting advice.
  23. Birch doesn't like `being down for some time'. Best have alook at it first. Could be rubbish.
