  1. Never done it to be honest. I know you will need your PTS, think thats what its called. (personal track saftey).

    angry kid

Maybe your right Monkeyd. we should do a thread with just Smileys.?
  3. I think its because, your mainly there to learn to climb, branch walk. On these 5 day courses they just dont have the time to start discussing different types of friction hitch. I started out using a prussik, then blakes, and still use the blakes till this day, and now and again use the v.t. Point im making is, i think it just comes down to experience, once you get safe and good at climbing you can start trying different hitches. I can see why they dont teach you to climb on a v.t and thats simply because, climbing within the criteria of the 38 it is difficult (or i find it difficult) to body thrust, and alot of climbers (me included) when using the v.t, climb with slack in the system, and then pull it through until it starts tending itself. Plus with the v.t you need to be confident and commited when putting your weight on it. Hope that makes sence.
  4. I've used the V.T before, found it ok, didnt really like it for that reason, found myself having a couple of mtrs of slack in the line before pulling it through, and for that reason went back to a blakes with a pulley. Im probley just a BIG girl though.
  5. Absoloutly bitter here, has been the last few days. Ice'y roads and ground frost, think it'll snow soon.
  6. Base training in Stafford. Was meant to get photos of the finished tree's but forgot, and im not traveling all that way for those photos. To be honest though i didnt see much point in the coarse, if you go there thinking your going to come away with head full of information, you dont. If you already know how to thin and reduce a tree and you need the ticket, just go in for your assessment. What they tought there i already knew so didnt really benefit from it, apart for a extra nptc unit, plus i hadt to do it for the power line work.
  7. There both crap, i'd beat that track record in my freelander. Actually get Ed in his wifes car and tell him to drive the road from his house to his local town. Never knew you were a petrol head Ed.
  8. Chester is a good night out too. Plenty of lamp post, cctv poles to climb Dean!!
  9. You cant sack them for that, that is harsh! Lying though does annoy me, makes you always think about leaving them on there own next time. Ive not tightened the shoot enough on the chipper and it spun round ans spat chip all over the drive, no one got hurt, just get the blower / brush out and clean it up.
  10. You must of had a bad batch of rope, ive had my xtc for 2 years now, and ive never found it milking in excess. As for the marlow it's an opk rope, dont rate it too much, feel the same way Peter feels about it pretty much.
  11. The dredded conifer.....Nice work, really tidy finish.
  12. oops. Bet they were happy!?!
  13. Whats the saying, "a bad workman blames his tools" I bought a second throw bag and line for that very reason. I've done that plenty of times.
  14. No problem. Only way you learn is by asking questions.
  15. This what i meant anyway. Using a 3 knot system with the other end of your climbing rope. Tie a bowline, then leave about a meter tail, and then tie a blakes hitch. Thats how i would do it anyway, but on my harness i alwys carry extra split tails.
  16. hahahahaha. That was well funny, that just cheered me up. Must of hurt though.
  17. I'd stick with Sthil if i was you, since you've been using them already. Sthil all the way for me mate. Echo dont do it for me, they look cheap.
