  1. It was pretty dead that tree, we often fell tops off like that, mainly to keep the brash by the road while allowing the timber to be felled in another direction. The three tops were felled by 3 different climbers, white hat=me, orange hat Finn, yellow hat =Andrew
  2. Nice work Stevie, rotten lime is like polystyrene.
  3. 3 years isn't long, when the thinnest limb left is 3" and the whole tree is a barkless white skeleton, then its time to be more cautious.
  4. Another.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt3w_H0f148]More swinging.. - YouTube[/ame]
  5. Two more from the same site.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvqh4VqpVOo]Another top comes off. - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOW5lLTb074]Winching a top off - YouTube[/ame]
  6. This is one we did on Friday, makes me want to do a really massive one..
  7. Be careful, they can be very strong, but I have ripped the top off one with my climbing line, lucky I gave it a test pull. The real danger lies at the base, I once pulled one over with a turfor winch, the line never even went tight. Stevie's right about those in woodland environments, protected from the wind, and damp all the time...

You sure the return stay isn't a cold water stat to switch off the pump when the return water is too cold?
  9. Not much else really, just a bit of deadwooding..
  10. I have a friend who is not a member on here who has just been taken for £2.5 k by one if these scams in farmers weekly. The scammers have a Barclays bank acct in Norwich...

  12. I try and answer mine, the fact is people decide they are getting a job done, they look on tinternet and start ringing companies, the first one to answer in many cases gets the job. Some will always want 3 quotes, but many just want a hassle free life, if you son=und ok and are a "can do" kind of chap chances are you'll get the job. I keep mine in my thigh pocket and I have a krussell flip cover for it....
  13. If you want a trouble free 550, go on ebay and buy a 254, then send it to spud and get it ported. 550 performance and no electronics.
  14. Get the two side adjustments where you want them and the sew them up with whipping twine, the front adjustment just needs tightening every now and again...
  15. Just looked at Marks again, psmsl...
  16. Mine on page 2 is still the best!
  17. Check this one out.. Kubota Kubota KX57-4 L Huge spec, engcon, forestry spec - - Mini excavators < 7t (Mini diggers), Year of manufacture: 2011 - Mascus UK Thats what I would have if money were no object, would go nicely on the trailer behind the valtra.
  18. Well Done Stevie. Didn't think it would take you long. TCD, That looks like a great setup, got any more pics, spec etc?
  19. I love a 3 tonner, I have used a few, prob best of the bunch was a bobcat 325, lots of power and well built. I must admit there is a world of difference between a 3 tonner and a 1.5 or 2 ton machine. You can do a lot with a 3 tonner, I used one with a thumb, it had a brash rake so you could rake up a site in no time and then grab the piles with the thumb.
  20. Why get a 3 toner, its too big to tow with a van / 4x4 so you will need to use the mog, in which case why not go bigger? I have always thought that a 7.5 tonner with a grab and rotator would be the nuts for woodland work, and its big enough that you could get some nice wee ditching jobs with it too.
  21. I wouldn't say I lived in the middle of nowhere, but it is rural, we seem to get at least 1 power cut a year, for what ever reason, Having cooking and hot water can be a godsend at these times. So I agree that not having all your eggs in one basket is not a bad thing.
  22. Thats great Dean, fill it with logs, drive into the front room and tip it right on the hearth.
