  8. Evenin' all Got a rather large tree to plant soon and I was going to use the "Platipus" system, but I also been tempted by the simplicity of the "Arbofix" system. I've never used either. What sort of results have any of you had with the diferrent systems. Particullarly the "Arbofix" one.???
  9. Agree whole-heartedly. I priced a job up last week felling a very big ugly conifer, bt lines, houses, summer houses, limited drop zone..........nightmare. I put £1000 + vat on it, I lost the job to a quote of £395. I just can't compete with that and I wouldn't want to either. Good call my friend, your prices are very very competetive anyway!! I always take the attitude that some jobs you (we) as pros are never going to get.
  10. I'm interested. How quick is the return on the ram. Some iof the one's I've seen have been very slow!!! Only problem I can see is I'm down in sunny Kent!!!!
  11. That's a great machine Bob, it's exactly what I had in mind, and towable too!!! Did you make it yourself, or get it fabricated?? Do you mind me asking roughly what it set you back. I really need to address my logging situation this year, and I reckon something like this could really get us on our way!
  12. You've read my mind. I've been looking around for couriers lately for the old chippers blades. Cheers mate...........you rate them?????????
  13. Gotta love the spikes up a big pop (where appropriate ofcourse)! Love the BIG V-sign they've now got in their garden
  14. Has anyone ever made their own log splitter. In principle they seem simple.......engine, ram, pump and some decent steelwork. I'm tempted to have a go at getting one made. Anyone been tempted to do this before and ACTUALLY done it. What was the resulting machine like?? Any tips and advice??? Thanks to you all.
  15. Hi there as you may know I'm looking to buy a new camera. I found this great deal on a listings/freeads type website. I contacted the seller to ask a few questions about camera, condition etc etc and he sent me this reply "I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. Let me expain : you`ll pay eBay...i`ll ship the camera, once you`ll be approved to buy(after you finish the transaction with eBay). You have 5 days to decide if you keep it or not.If you decide to keep it...eBay will relise the deposit on my name and you`ll have to transfer the rest of the money to them.If you decide not to keep it...you have to ship it back with the same shipping company for no costs and you will be refunded 100%.Fair enough ? If so..let me know your full name and address including zip code so we can proceed. " What do you reckon, seems like a good deal, any one else had dealings via Ebay on a set up like this???

  17. Thanks Monkeyd The leaves are all brown and dropping, the berries too are small and shrivelled, to me it looks as if its just damn thirsty, but would that be so obviuos in only 4 weeks or so (well that's what my client has told me)

  19. Great shots John, you seem to have a good eye for a decent photo. Years and years ago I used to study photography and there was always the old Nikon versus Canon discussions. I suppose it's like sthil versus husky!!!! Thanks for thr advice mate, I'll let you know what the outcome is.
  20. I've had two Canon SLRs in the and one Nikon I've always really liked the Canons, but the build quality of the Nikon and their lenses are legendary. Are the modern Nikons built aswell as the older ones?
  21. Hello all After a drunken night and a few too many drops I have broken my camera!!! I have been thinking for a while to ditch the compacts and go for an SLR, the last one I owned must have been 10 years ago and although the quality form the compacts is great in my opinion it's not a patch on an SLR. I've been looking at the Nikon D90 and the Canon EOS 500d Anyone with helpful advice out there?? Thanks y'all
