  2. Hello all, over the years we've installed quite a few cobra kits, but we have a large lime to brace soon, its about 28-30metres tall with x2 co-dominant stems that fork at about 3metres. These stems are approx. 80cm at the fork. we have reduced the tree -30% crown volume (at the most) but there are existing braces that have failed and so the client wants them reinstalled. We have always used the 2 tonne kit in the past, but I think this is not going to be man enough.......question is go for 4 or 8 tonne kit? Thinking 8 tonne kit........is this over kill?
  3. We used to run an LDV, I have to say, i was noisy, slow and not too comfortable, but it was cheap when we started out and it never ever broke down. We now have an Iveco Daily. I get the impression from it that it won't be as reliable as the LDV, the interior trim is a bit questionable, but it has a fantastic motor and pulls like a train, pulls a full load of chip and a 1.3 tonne chipper with ease, seriously strong and built very well. We had a bespoke chip box fabricated from GRP & ally and it came in at just shy of 2k. looks amazing, although my missus says it looks like a tesco delivery van!! She's got a point I s'pose! I'd say if you can afford it get one made professionally. I would get another when needed
  4. Thinking about getting a new pole saw, I'm thinking quite seriously about a battery/cordless Stihl. I'm just wondering if any of you fine folk out there have got/used one and how they measure up to the petrol equivalent?
  5. This is interesting, is the magnetic device from sattrak also?
  6. Ive got tonnes if you want to come and pick it, just outside of Faversham
  7. Interval is on the cards for me, but I thought I'd start off with standard rowing in order to get the technique correct. My times are improving I think a month of this then maybe next month on to the intervals 30secs hard - 1min rest sound good?
  8. 1.50 seems like a long way off for me at the moment and 2k in 6mins even further.
  9. I've just finished a 1/2 hour and broke the 7km mark. Messed around a little with technique. Dropped the Stroke/min down to 28/29 but really concentrated in more of a effort with the legs. Seemed to work well
  10. I think for us arbs getting the technique correct is hard. We are so conditioned to using our arms to work that reigning them in and letting the legs do the hard graft isn't as easy as it first sounds. I'm rowing at least 5 days each week now. 1/2 an hour at a time. Covering between 6.5 and 7 km at a stroke rate of 30 and a split of 2m10s for 500m From reading around this is still off the mark by some way and I should expect to get into the high 1m50's So there's a bit of work needed on my behalf. I've been at it for 3 weeks or so if guess.
  11. I think this is the same questions as "Sthil or Husqvarna" or "Toyota or Land Rover". I have the water rower. It depends where you look online as to which is best. I think they are both brilliant pieces of kit. Just down to personal preference I think.
  12. Very good, I think that'll improve your 100m times!
  13. That's a good effort, end of lease and no inspection on a truck used for arb!!
  14. I've always quite enjoyed messing around on rowing machines, now I'm a little more office based I feel the need for some exercise... no tree climbing is taking its toll. So I brought an indoor rower, and I have to say I'm getting really into it, even after slightly under a month the old muscle memory seems to be doing its thing and I'm starting to feel stronger! Well closer to my old tree climbing self! Any one else into indoor rowing? Just wondering what your split times are, maybe we could have a little arbtalk league?
  15. I think it was The Hero 4? Not too sure though, will find out for you.
  16. Mate, there's so many threads on this on the site, it's clearly a danger of the job. I had it for 18mths on and off and couldn't shake it, got to the point where I couldn't pick up a cup of coffee! Things I did; Got a support strap - amazon - slight amount of pain relief, enabled me to work alongside lots of ibuprofen Had steroid injection - immediate and fairly long lasting relief Had acupuncture - 4 sessions - I believe this is what cured me. I would say from my experience, the steroid gave me relief for a long enough period to change my climbing style, went from VT style knots & 13mm to spider jack & thinner rope 11.7 So my thoughts are, the change of climbing style and acupuncture is what did it for me, this was 3 years ago and it's never come back. You really have to address it, because in this trade you simply cannot give it time to self-regulate Best of luck.
  17. Interesting, but I've put the vid up on Youtube also, but I think the Vimeo quality seems better? [ame] [/ame]
  18. I think you may be correct there. It wasn't me climbing (I'm too out of shape nowadays!! I'm credited as being the Groundie) it was our head climber and it was his first crane job, so yes, I think, as with everything we learn from what we do. Thanks for the constructive advice....appreciated
  19. The tree is still standing, it's habitually loosing limbs on a very regular basis, it has been reduced quite heavily in the past (not by us). The branches were taken down on exemption due to being a very real danger. I was surprised how acceptable the appearance of the tree is, but further work will be needed, so a TPO app. is going in.
  20. It's been a while, since I've had a job like this and really pleased to have been able to film it. OK, so I'm not Spielberg but I'm happy with the results. It was a great day....the sun even shone! I hope you enjoy. [ame] [/ame]
  21. Come on people, this is a good job, maybe you have come towards the end of your climbing career and want to take on a more managerial role? PM me, lets talk.
