1. Had a look and it's the 4006 clear one that I have here. Struggling to find a little bottle to put some in but got an empty whisky miniature that should do if I wrap it up well. PM me your address if you've not got sorted and I'll get some bottled up and on it's way.
2. I'm pretty sure I've got some here Alec from when we dd the kitchen worktops - how much do you think you'd need and I'll see what's left. We used it as it was meant to be a good base coat for the top oil where it was going to be used in environments like kitchens and bathrooms and it took the top oil really well too. I've used the top oil on one of the offcuts of wortop without the wood protector and the colour seems to be deeper with using it than without - that was on Oak though.
3.
Sorry, nothing available at the moment. We should be back in the woods again from February, but the majority of the time we don't have anything spare. If we do it will go up on a post on the forum on a first come first serve basis as the list of people wanting it just keeps getting longer and longer I'm afraid.

4. I had one for that very use, and i was really disappointed with it. Went back to using the air rifle in the end. It was good in the sense that it didn't damage the shed roof but at the same time did little more than give the target a bit of a shock. Dare say it might have been OK on soft stuff like rats but I sold it before I got that far.
5. If anyone fancies a blat out over Christmas, there's a Hare and Hounds on near Sheffield on the 27th. Vintage (up to and including 1995) and Trail bikes (any age I think) togther in the morning and then modern bikes in the afternoon - 2 hours each race. I've not ridden there before but it doesn't look too tough on youtube. Bit more info and entry form in link below: Dirtbike-Action
6. On the whole, I don't grease them either, but I've had several go pop and others who do grease have too. I think forestry is a lot harder on the noses than arb from a lot more snedding.
7. Not had it for a while but had a few in a row spit the nose sprocket after a few days, nearly always .325 ones. Not found the Oregon prolites to be much better - they seemed to go downhill when they started being made in the US instead of Canada. Didn't seem to make any difference whether they were greased or not greased
8. Any pics Charlie? Sounds a useful tool.
9. agreed, 550 would be where I'd spend my money.
10. Typically, an 8 wheeler will legally carry about 19T (give or take) and an artic around 27T - will vary a bit between diffrent set ups but that should be near enough for most calculations. Can't help on volume other than the volume of a load that is up to weight will vary with size/species of timber and also the skill of the crane operator. We always try to cut firewood at 3.75m for two bays on an 8 wheeler or 3 bays on an artic.
11. That'd be my thinking - £25,000 will pay a helper for a good while if they don't need a lot of skills.
12. It's getting worse here - dark enough now some of the streetlights are tyring to come back on!
13. I prefer the stihl ones as they hold the file more positively as they have a threaded clamp each end rather than a sping clip.
14. I really like Birch.
15. Once you've used an impact driver for putting in/taking out screw, you'll wonder how you ever managed without one - leagues apart from a conventional driver but no good for drilling. Depends hw much you are looking to use it, but I've found the Ryobi 1+ 18V range not bad for the money. Not a professional grade item but they seem to last well with infrequent (though often heavyish) use.
16. All I can remember was a full bag of granules to a 25L drum and there were 4 bags to one box - no idea how much was in a bag though so can't help there
17. Pretty much agree. Electric winch is a waste of time. Portable capstan or chainsaw winch (like a lewis) might be OK for a few small poles but is never going to be massively fast. Tractor mounted PTO winch is built to pull trees and usually a fast(ish) line speed. Typically 70-100m of cable fitted but the closer you can get the tractor, the better. If you are looking to do this to gain some experience and do end up getting someone in to do the extraction - make sure you talk to them first about how they want it presented for maximum efficiency. They will not thank you for leaving a birds nest to deal with.
18. That always worked for us too. Also, don't spill a 25l drum of it in the back of your pickup - it's not the best to clean out.......
19. Could you not fell a load and get someone to winch it all uphill to the edge of the wood, but leaving it just within the edge of the wood so you can deal with it as and when you get chance? sub 12" poles shouldn't be too bad to handball if you're converting it on site. If it's steep, I'd not worry messing around with tracked barrows or ATV's.
20. This one went up to Scotland - he seemed a nice bloke, even stringing proper sentences together and everything unlike a lot of the messages that usually come through on ebay Will just have to see what happens.
21. Thanks again fellas. I asked him for photos of the plug colour and piston anyway, but fuel/oil is my gut feeling too. If I had any doubts about it, I'd have listed it as spares or repair, but it ran really well. The talk of new carb swung me a bit too - sounded like clutching at straws a bit to me. Worst case is ebay will side with him, refund him and then I'll chuck it back on ebay in bits and put it down to experience. What's most annoying is it's the first time I've had any bother with any of the stuff I've sold on ebay, other than an odd non payer or a couple of small things going missing.
22. I should have said, when he said he was chuffed with it, it was after he'd been using it. Least if ebay look into it, they can see the email from him saying as such. It has rattled me a bit though as have a couple more saws that were going to go on there this winter too.
23. Thanks guys, not feeling quite so worried now
24. Sold one of my 357's on ebay at the satart of November and originally the guy was chuffed to bits with it, but I got an email this morning saying he's been having bother with it becoming sluggish after about 15 minutes and when he took it into the dealer they're saying it's scoring the piston, it wants a new barrel and piston and a new carb. Now, I know it was running fine when it left as I took it in with me and ran it through the log heap for a bit and it was faultless. Prior to that it had felled a hundred tonne or so of hairy Scot with no problem either. I'm thinking he's run it with either cheap oil or a bad mix - but it's his word against mine. Don't know where I'd stand if ebay get involved either. As I know I've not done anything wrong, I'm inclined to just dig my heels in and let ebay deal with it - surely I can't be any worse off then than if I was to take the saw back and refund him now. Have asked him for photos and the dealer's details but wondered if anyone else has been in this position?
