  1. I seized my 357xp and replaced with 560, it's a good saw but i wished I'd kept the older one too and got it going
  2. Although probably getting difficult to find, have you thought about seeing if there is a half decent 357 or 346 used husky around. Harry the cat on eBay was always the go to guy.
  3. Yeah definitely don't take any notice of me 🤣
  4. I'm definitely no David Humphries, but looks like meripilus and armillaria
  5. You've got to upload that to the throw line blues Instagram page with the 'throwline poos' heading. There's loads of throw line and retrieval fails on there but I don't think any as bad as this. Even after a wash it always seems like you can always smell a shitty rope.
  6. Definitely pfanner arborist, worth every penny 👍
  7. That's good advice, I've never been a fan of the central grease points, blockages, splits etc. Direct is much better and doesn't take much more time 👍
  8. Yeah thats Friar Tucked
  9. Agree with drilling a hole in muffler, but have you thought of advancing the timing slightly. Just take the flywheel off and either adjust the keyway or key very slightly so the magnet passes the ignition slightly earlier (make sure you do the correct side of the keyway). Alongside the muffler hole this should make a difference for very little work. Currently covering my ears waiting to be slapped by spud 😬🤣
  10. All for retaining trees but with the speed that will grow and how close that is to the building, I would want that out. Or at a bare minimum reduced and then regularly trimmed in to a nice shape. Thuja will tolerate heavier pruning, unlike leylandii. Not that I would suggest making it into a toilet roll.
  11. I don't think I did much with mine, remember cutting some pop afterward using it and was unimpressed with the speed of cut
  12. I had a Dremel attachment for sharpening, used a couple of times on really damaged chains, also used a couple of grinding machines but as stubby says you can't beat a new file and a file will give the best edge (with practice). My grandfather taught me how to sharpen before I left school and about the only person I have seen with decent videos of this (with the same things he showed me) is Buckin Billy Ray
  13. F*CK me that was painful
  14. Ganoderma resinaceum
  15. I think that most climbers on here would tie in much higher than your circles, if you go around the main stem on those points you'll be fine, or even wrap your cambium saver around the stem (large ring over the smaller one) you can tie in anywhere 👍
  16. If the tree officer states his reduction as a percentage he need a smack on the bottom. Metres please 👍
  17. Wolf or fiskars here, the fiskars have been crap since they took them over from Wilkinson sword. Have replaced the final thin cord in the head before. There's a foreign YouTube video walkthrough. 👍 Also interested in the bahco. Did try some gardena too they were ok but the head couldn't be locked. So a few times it would move to a poor angle on contact with the growth point
  18. Pfanner arborist, hands down 👌
  19. I had a cheap Screwfix compressor 24 litres that lasted about 7 years, replaced with a half decent machine mart compressor that the outlet pipes snapped off in the hot weather after about three years. I replaced that with a Hyundai silent compressor for just over £150 and I've been really impressed with it. It's nice to be able to work next to it on saws and be able to hear yourself think....and not jump out of your skin when the motor kicks in 😂
  20. SRT is doubling the force you're putting on the tie in point. Think of it if you were pulling trees over on the floor and doubling your pulling force. With DRT ideally you want to be around the main stem where possible so if one branch fails the next one would catch you. Or you can wrap a cambium saver or set a sling/pulley if you need to return to that part of the tree With the two rope working that came in a couple of years ago this makes it less of a problem for the people who stick to it
  21. Yes, but after 10 minutes my lower back aches from bending down to pick up the rings/logs and it's not relaxing anymore. Split many tons with an elwell....I guess that's why.
  22. Ace 1.6, brilliant bit of kit for the money 👍
  23. My Scag 48 flail is up for sale on eBay. eBay number 234001818833. It's a decent machine if anyone is interested. I have gone from running my own business to working for an arb firm and have some other small equipment left to sell: Echo 360 top handle, good condition 12" new spare chain Stihl FS 460c heavy brush cutter (needs work but lots of extras) Stihl FS 85 strimmer Hayterette (modern new shape) with new set of blades spare Stihl BT131 post hole borer with 200mm auger (spare blade) 40mm auger and extension. Please let me know if anything you're interested in. Located Chelmsford Essex.
  24. Cheers, think I'll hang on to them as well as buying a new set with short gaffs, at least then I'll hopefully have the best of both worlds ?
