  1. I hedgetrimmed a very large varigated Holly today, flower beds all round the dripline, all with exotic flowers etc, couldn't sheet incase we squished them so had to hand pick the cutting out of them. Had the old classic, waited till we had spent over an hour picking every last clipping up and got the area spotless and said, "could you just trim that side a little more" after standing there watching us for 15 mins. I said no problem if you tidy up
  2. They are in my yard in an open fronted barn. I don't live in site and there's a right of way for a scout camp through my wood, so it's difficult to make it secure. I blocked off the entrance to the yard with logs once, so they just jumped over the barbed wire fence with nylon shopping bags and filled them. The effort involved in getting a few logs can't be worth it. But quite a few people doing it has a big impact on me. I've put signs up now saying anyone caught will be prosecuted and siince they went up three weeks ago no more have gone "touch wood"
  3. Thats them Tom and thats the supplier in Cumbria. I asked for a sample and never received one. I wanted them to stack my wood so it was harder to nick, I'm having quite a problem at the mo with people nicking my wood. If you bagged it as you did it them stack ontop of each other it makes it harder. Probably just slash the bag then with a knife
  4. Only problem with woodland grants are the conditions, ie you must plant this, you must underplant that, you must replace this with that and within a certain timeframe. For the amount you get the conditions aren't worth it (for me anyway)
  5. I understand what your saying Blakes. It boils down to whatever insurance company it is trying to find blame elsewhere and body swerve a payout I've just managed to get 10m EL, 2.5M PL and 10K tool insurance for £1088, cheap I thought
  6. What I do is load the bag on the landy, push it over on it's side so the bottom is facing the back of the truck and tip it out, it then lands right way up logs neatly in the bag. The bag nearly always gets damaged, but you don't want to be hand balling it out of the bags or relying on customers bring the bags back. They did look a bit fragile to me
  7. If they haven't asked you and have just gone ahead I do believe it's willful damage and therefore a criminal offence
  8. The drum will most likely have a lip on it as well mike so the adjustment will need backing off. Can't remember the setup inside the drum so can't advise on broken adjusters. If your going to give the drum a tap don't hit it directly on the outside of the drum. Put a waste lump of flat metal on and hit that, you then put dents in the waste metal not the drum . Don't go mad wacking it or you'll distort or crack it. ...and you'd be better putting a bar through the studs and put a bit of turning pressure on at the same time I used to use sledge hammers and hit simultaneously on opposites sides of the drum at once one in each hand, you will need two pairs of hands to do all that so best find a four armed alien to do it for you
  9. Did an experiment last year Tom, it goes moldy as hell. Priced some net sided bulk bags but they were £6.50 each
  10. I alway bleed the system by putting a rubber pipe on the bleed nipple the immersing the other end in brake fluid in a bottle. Start with the furthest bleed nipple away from the master cylinder and open the nipple. Get someone to slowly pump the pedal until no air and clean fluid comes through. Repeat on all wheels working towards the nearest to the M/cylyinder, checking the fluid level each time.
  11. Dead Mans Shoes was filmed 40 miles south of here in Matlock
  12. I like 1:54 in the vid, shows inappropriate planting of houses.
  13. Because people know your a Tree Surgeon you have to go that little bit more with your hedges and shape them etc, especailly with signage at the bottom of the drive they have to show what standard you work to, so let see them you bunch of saddo's, your hedges at home that is. Every time I trim my privets in the front garden my dogs takes great pleasure in leaping up on them and laying on the top whilst I'm trimming. Not too bad but it's 10ft to the pavement at the other side.
  14. I've just ordered OE parts. Servo Master cylinder ..and stainless steel braided hoses. I WILL stand this defender on it's nose, like it or not That means the only thing not new in the whole system will be the brake pedal itself. It is disc braked all round BTW
  15. Last time I think it was 24 turned up but this time I think it's going to be more. My location is very central in the north which isn't too bad for people 2 hours drive from either side. It is a recreational climb where people bring their own gear to climb trees, you are only providing the food and drink. If they want to borrow trick bits and shiney toys from someone elses gear to try out then they do so at their own risk You can't say that the expertise isn't their to guide and supervise. It was a really enjoyable day and the main activity was chin wagging, so treat it as a day out with mates.
  16. Cheers Elvis, will do that. Frank, braided hoses ordered as we speak, thanks
  17. I,ve had one of them, got reported for running an engineers shop from home. he knew it was a malicous call and said to me nodding his head, "your a model engineer aren,t you?" After a few seconds it clicked. "Oh! Yes" I said. "and this is your hobby isn't it" , he said, again nodding his head. "yes it is" I agreed. Right, you'll not have another visit from us, we have got better things to do with our time, like dealing with reports of burnt out cars in front gardens. He was anice man.
  18. I think I'll do that, it can't be anything else. I've even changed the brake fluid thinking it may have got moisture in and become spongy. All I have to do now is change the chassis and I'll have a brand new motor
  19. I tried really hard to lock the brakes up today and couldn't even get the backs to lock
  20. When we were kids about 10 year old we used to go down the valley with the shotguns. We used to wear those green parkers, you know the ones with the fir round the hood. We would then walk as far away as we could then bob down on the floor, back facing your mate and pull the parker down to the floor. I then got my mate to shoot me with the shotgun about 200 yards away We would get closer and closer until it hurt too much. A good way of finding out about shotgun ballistics
  21. Exactly Chris. I say what is more dangerous, hugging the log to keep it in place or operating the machine one handed whilst holding the log in place
