  1. I spent a good hour trying to find the source of a rattle after fitting another engine. When the engine was idling there was a hellish rattle, I quickly shut down the engine and had to keep starting it to zero in on the rattle whilst worrying that every time I did I was ruining the engine. It turned out I had left a socket in the airfilter housing between the air filter and the outer casing and that is a fully qualified mechanic with 30 years behind him
  2. I actually asked the posty if he knew anyone with a chrysler. I hope it hasn't cost me for the phone call otherwise I'll be phoning them back for recompense
  3. Now now I'll hand them into the bank anyway, I was just really peed off that I could have saved the owner a load of hassle. The best thing to put on a bunch of keys is a mobile number, I would have phoned it straight away or am I being a bit niave The theives will have probably known the owners details anyway
  4. Some big ladders there David I wouldn't have put the pulling rope through the guide loop on the hobbs, I'd of gone straight to the pulley provided it was lined up right so it was pulling to the inside of the drum. You'll lose loads of pulling power because of the acute angle at which the rope goes off over the guide loop if you know what I mean
  5. Jesus Graham, basic stuff mate, should have been picked up straight away :laugh1: Glad it was a cheap fix for you mate
  6. Working on some trees roadside but over a tall wall. Came across a bunch of keys, not been there long and the car key fob that was with them was still working, quite a bunch of keys and would imagine the Chrysler key fob alone would be some £200 to replace and the inconvenience of busting or changing all the other locks would be a nightmare or cost a fortune Luckily the keys had an insurance "key recovery" fob on them with an 0845 number to ring and a £10 reward After 15 minutes on the phone trying to pick the right option to speak to a human I eventually went for the new insurance option to get anywhere. I expalined I had found these keys and wanted to get them back to the owner asap. You have to take them to a Halifax bank or Bank of scotland bank, they said. Haven't got time love, I work 7 days a week I explained. There's a £10 reward for the inconvenience of taking them in she said. Not interested in £10, I earn £60 per hour so it would cost me to take them in, cant I give you my details so you can pass them on to the owner who can then collect them off me, if you tell them straight away I am probably just round the corner from whoever owns them or they can contact me anytime. We cant do that for security reasons she eplained. I'm not bothered about you passing my details on love, dont worry about me !! No we still cant do it. There must be a way of you telling them or getting the keys back to them using my details love, I'm trying to save you some money and your client some inconvenience. Sorry we cant take your details and pass them on you will have to hand them into a bank or police station. Stick it then love, tell you what I'll just throw them back in the hedge where I found them then !!! Sorry we couldn't be of any help she replied !!!! I am struggling to comprehend the mentality of these people
  7. Ayee, wouldn't want some poor koala getting to the tip of that branch and it just peels away. Save the koala's Mark, fell the bugger
  8. Fine David, Just the usual catching up after xmas and owing the accountant, taxman and solictor all at the same time Hope you and yours are well
  9. Its normally the spade connectors in the plug to the relay which open a little and become a loose connection. Find the relays, unplug them and with a minature screwdriver push the spade connector prongs together a bit to make them a tighter fit
  10. To which type of forest are we refering ??
  11. Just an after thought. I once had similar and what had happened is the tube to the air filter had delaminated and the inside walls were being sucked together but it appeared normal on the outside
  12. Only thing I can think of then Graham, is the crap must have gone through to the injectors, but then you would normally get grey smoke
  13. Working in a forest on your own, naughty boy Good vids though Stevie boy !!
  14. Fuel starvation should just make the engine stop with no black smoke, black smoke is normally associated with air starvation or over fuelling
  15. This is a barber chair Bear in mind the scaffold plank is 10ft If the Stem hadn't held on top the "chainsaw operator" would have had a very good chance of dying
  16. If it had been me there would have been 2 to 3 " of clearance:001_smile:
  17. I think he should be charging more It only take a soot mark on the carpet for him to be totally out of pocket
  18. I did something similar for a Carreers information firm They gave me a copy of the finished dvd but you cant "rip" it so cant post the vid, but there's always something you can pick up on or were "not proud of that bit" Spent a good 1 and a half hours filming to be edited down to about 3 minutes
  19. If the same things happen on other powertools (ruling out the breaker itself) If it is an electronic regulator is is likely to be the AVR Automatic Voltage Regulator If it's a capacitor run it could be the capacitor or even a loose connection
  20. Also a machine gun placement nearby all disabled parking bays and if anyone that uses them that can walk more than two steps without the aid of a stick gets shot by their car
  21. This week I bought two new bearing housings for my big mower, they are oregon parts so you'd expect decent quality. I noticed "Made in China" on the box (these parts are £200 each list) so I decided to inspect them. One seemed a little stiff to turn, I put it down to cold grease in the housing itself, so I put the shaft in the lathe chuck and fixed the outer housing to run it for a while to warm the grease. After a good few minutes the housing was so hot you couldn't touch it !! Deffo bearing adjustment too tight so I stripped it down to find too much pre load had been put on the bearings so ended up having to make a 10 thou shim and build it back up. To me it was obvious it was too hard to turn so oregon QC should have picked this up. If a dumb Yorkshireman can pick up and make right a quality control issue why cant oregon Things are just not what they used to be nowadays Just because you buy new, don't automatically think it will be spot on
  22. If we ever have another world war we are doomed, doomed I say. What we need is to hand out condoms to british citizens and neuter all immigrants coming into the country. Only allow nationals to have two kids and no more and anyone thinking of having more should be taken down the vets and neutered. We are building on greenfeild sites to make more houses, if everyone stopped breeding we wouldn't need to God help us If I become PM
  23. Bone dry willow, poplar and Conifer Because it makes my fire glow better than Oak and it's light weight for carting in the house
