  1. The piece I left standing up was to show how much I was taking off, the stem diameter on that piece where I cut it was 8". Can you imagine a TPO planning spec: "Reduce no more than 20ft to a suitable pruning point no more than 8 inches"
  2. I wondered if there would be any tree left Stevie Finished job
  3. I was hoping to stamp it down leaving a trainer footprint that you might recognise but I have been waiting delivery of said trainer for nearly a year now
  4. Apart from lombardies and conifer I have never "Topped" a tree. Until today, finally caved in to the customer who was going to get it done anyway. So I agreed to do it and try to keep it looking like a tree. Will have to go back and remove epicormic no doubt in near future. Promised I would post before and afters for ridicule Some, before, during and after. It was an Ash
  5. I tried to do a divet as big as yours but failed miserably, I obviously need more training. I did manage to do about 8 small ones because I got bored of lowering and wanted to speed things up. Mended them as good as new, dug the pushed down sod up with trowel, borrowed soil from flower bed and replaced sod.
  6. I know what you mean Rob. The polytunnel will be mine and water is free so no over heads. I think what I was hoping was to pot a few "replacement " type trees and leave them so when one is required I can bill the customer (who thinks I have got it from a garden centre) the full amount, the rest of the space in the tunnel will be used for storing some logs and growing veg an stuff. I replaced a tree the other day, which was a rowan I dug up from my wood, I charged the customer £45 which they were chuffed with and gave me an extra £20 because they had been quoted a lot more. I'm getting a polytunnel anyways so will try out a few things, good to potter about in on rainy days ???
  7. Come on Sam !! We want to see the whole car not a zoom on the sign writing Its a toyota, show it off mate
  8. Do you wear a watch all the time John? I gave up wearing watches and rings after I nearly got hung up on the wedding ring one day
  9. Did you hire in a JCB to fill in the hole John Seriously though, last one I did I cut out the sod and borrowed some soil from a flowerbed and replaced the sod. Good as new
  10. I am more worried about the open cast mine John has dug in that nice lawn
  11. I've got cover with these Home Page : Income Protection and Health Insurance Policies The good thing about this policy is that whatever you pay in, provided you dont claim, you get the full amount back after 12 years. I'm a bit dubious but I had a financial adviser look over it and he couldn't pick fault ??
  12. It looks like a big invisible rake Matt
  13. Cheers Arbclimber, I'm definately going to give it a go now Mdvaden that link is fascinating, if that doesn't sound too geeky
  14. Got a site work and safety assessment tomorrow. Guys coming out from college to make sure I'm looking after his student (my groundy) properly. This should be fun Apparently, from a previous visit, "I'm not at all bad" I think Arbtalk has a lot to do with this because since using arbtalk, I have cleaned up my act somwhat for fear of reprisal
  15. Exactly what I'm thinking lee. Trouble is growing things and grafting etc are totally alien and will be a whole new learning curve, unless of course we do as suggested and buy them as plugs and as they grow, so does your investment, its just time and space that is needed, I have plenty of space, it's the time that might be a problem
  16. It got better as it aged but it still doesn't like deadwood and sycamore isn't brilliant but it copes. I can put up with the deadwood bit as a compomised for it's good points
  17. The phone itself is a cracker, it's just getting to grips with the software, it's totally different to anything else. Slowly getting used to it Its supposed to be the flagship of smart phones, much better than previous nokias operating systems, I've always had nokias. I liked the simplness of the iphone but every tom dick and harry has got one
  18. Varies wildly It sounds like your customer has been offered or priced logs "per ton" Tell them there is no such thing as a ton of logs unless there is a specified species and moisture content. Volume volume volume....
  19. Just got one upgrade but it's taking some sussing out Any shortcuts or tips
  20. Have you ever used a mewp stevie, I'd love to see a vid of a lanky hyperactive jock operating a mewp
  21. Not secure enough Mark, I'd end up coming across spaced out divs everytime I went down the yard I recon I could make some serious coin though with a 60ft x 25ft polytunnel
  22. As promised photo showing roller motor mounting on the bandit, it is attached via a tapered sleeve as a "floating" motor, the motor is prevented from turning by the plate mounted to the face of the motor as shown in the pic
  23. But there again Pete, regular service work finds minor faults before they develop into major faults Many wait till a machine breaks down to take it into a service centre:001_rolleyes:
  24. I bought a std snake bark maple last week at £38 !! I had to go back to the supplier three times for it, too frosty, too warm etc etc Even if I used them myself I'd save a lot of money and time
