  1. Welcome to the dark side my young Padawan!
  2. It seemed to pull around the shoulders and neck when work positioning. I found the hand ascender with a foot loop, lanyard over the shoulder and a pantin works best for me. The lanyard is on the ART positioner so no problems adjusting to fit. Some people use a thin bungee round the neck.
  3. Ok, 140lb free fall 1 meter = 140x3+1=560lb. A 2M free fall is 140Lb X 6 + 1= 960 + 140= 1100Lb Most men are over 10 stone!
  4. I've got the chest harness you mention and I didn't like it. I clipped the croll onto my bridge ring which probably should have gone direct to the bridge as when working it pulls and gets uncomfortable! The Marlowe braid has an average breaking strain of 6628Lb or there abouts, to work out the working load I think you need. To know the minimum break then divide by 10, on the above figures that gives you 628Lb. A 10 stone boy free falling 1 meter (140Lb) would double in weight or shock load. I will get some more accurate figures in a minute!
  5. Only the hitch and HC would be LOLERD.
  6. I tried a floating foot loop using a croll. It worked but I prefer the hand ascender and pantin.
  7. What does the thimble do that a bit of starter cord girthed onto the RW cant? Cost pennies as well. Thats what I use on the eye of my unicender.
  8. There isn't a hitch that will work effectively with out over tightening on a SRT line. That's where the RW comes in, Same for mechanical devises not including the unicender which I think is the only bit of kit designed for tree work for ascent descent and work positioning. Your hitch or device will certainly hold you but it will be very hard to move.
  9. I was looking at this a couple of years ago and recent threads on the rocker made me look again. Any body used one? http://www.lineboss.com/index.htm
  10. The RW isn't rated for PPE it doesn't need to be it only puts enough friction in the system to allow the chosen hitch or device to work. The LJ isn't cross loaded so there isn't a problem?
  11. Ian, what's the difference between the 6000 and the 5000 than Nod sells at £4 per M?
  12. Mike these are very good but it sounds like your Jennsen has a NATO hitch fitted. Take a look- nato hitch - Google Search
  13. I would think the deer are being managed in the surrounding areas, ask around.
  14. I rarely use the ascender for limb walking but I am using a unicender. To be honest I don't think about how I do it I just do! Does that make sense? Thinking about it now I try to have my lanyard on a limb above me, it is 10 M long though! It's not always possible and I just pull on the tail and tend as we go, Does this help?
  15. Put the revolver on the hand ascender and run the tail direct from the LJ.
  16. Most plantations of Norway Spruce are unprotected or fenced. Sort the deer and the trees will be fine!
  17. As above, good information. If your going to guard them 1.2m would be needed. You could also consider planting sacrificial trees to discourage them from the good ones. Make sure you have an adequate deer management plan. Consider a WIGS grant as they will give you money to help with deer management plans, high seats and a stalker if required.
  18. Have you got any pics of your set up? This might save me buying a LJ!
  19. If the contract climber is working for you he uses your insurance, as you have said its your job. If you give him the job and have nothing to do with the job it's his sub contract his insurance. I contract climb as well as run my own company and I use arbinsure, very good!
  20. Rig the tree and use ply wood to cover the roof if in doubt.
