  1. Thought you might say that!
  2. That's why you use a scaffolding pole.
  3. You would have to plunge cut a hole and if you did vertical plunge guts around the stem at different angles this might help it fracture? There would be a lot of tension on the line.
  4. Please excuse my crap drawing! This is not to scale! Hope this explains better?
  5. Monkeyd, does the top pic show a pulley at the base with the line running to the top of the stem? I don't know if this would work. If you fabricated a pulley onto the end of a scaffold pole you could use it as a redirect point to pull the top of the stem side ways and not down. Plunge cut a hole for the pole to fit into so it stays put while you tension the line. The bigger size of the pole the greater the angle. The pole would go where you want the fracture and I suppose you could help it along by doing different angled plunge cuts at the proposed fracture site. Don't know if i have made it clear?
  6. Steve, Lee, Just had a reply from the country park. " have been forwarded an email from you about training of arborists at the country park. Whilst your proposal is not strictly an ‘event’ I do require more information from you about your proposal so I would be grateful if you’d fill out and email back the attached events form. Much of it you can ignore but I do need information about your company, evidence of Public Liability Insurance to the required level, and will require risk assessments and a method statement if we decide to proceed. You should also be aware that there would be a hire fee for use of the country park for a training event such as the one proposed." Typical red tape! I will try chase up the MOD.
  7. Vertex, doesn't stop my head boiling though!
  8. Orange plant have a centre in that area.
  9. Euthanasia is still illegal here!
  10. I like the machine, think he says its a Kanga? stump grinder as well. I always carry a hand saw btw.
  11. Just got an out of office reply from the local parks officer, he is unavailable for a chat until Tuesday! I can't get any answers from the MOD until Monday.
  12. What sort of numbers are we talking? How many turn up at Deans?
  13. I do use screw gates and slings when lowering light brush. I often cut 2 or 3 light pieces before I drop it. For anything else half hitch and a timber hitch.
  14. There is a local amenity wood near me. I will contact them and find out about availability, Insurance will need to be looked into. I will also contact the MOD which may be the easier option!
  15. I remember there was a thread here about bias valves etc. My brakes are crap as well!
  16. very kind of you lee! Please count me in.
  17. got a little surprise from Justin the other day. I only use Bio Chain oil and when I had a little order the other day got my Bio oil for the same price as standard chain oil! Only a few quid but every penny counts Thanks Justin!
  18. Thought about using a line but how do you get a TIP 10 feet from the floor?
  19. Dean that would be like digging a dead man in snow and ice. This would work as long as the angle was below 40 deg, if it was greater it would lift the anchor instead of pull into the ground!
  20. Not quite the words I was thinking of with the Steve Williams I know!
  21. Its not bad 850 acres of woodland.
  22. The lanyard should be above the pulley. If the pully slips then there is a chance the lanyard could get cought up etc.
