  1. No, I mean gossip. I have never met a 'stupid' assessor and I don’t think I ever will. If a company, council or garden like Kew had a sudden influx of accidents with handsaws then the correct thing to do would be to stop using them until a full investigation and risk assessment has taken place. Factors like training, PPE and indeed complacency can all be taken into account and control measures put into place.
  2. When we do highway work, yes we keep the down. When we're not I always have them up as I like to be able so see the feed-rollers working away..
  3. I give mine away! I'm just too nice me
  4. Thought I'd post a pic of our BC1000, just in case anyone didn't know what they looked like or how big they are!
  5. This was one of three Willow trees down by the river at Worcester. One blew over in storms, One lost a main limb and had to be taken down (middle of the night, no photos!) This is the third and last so I decided a little reduction was in order....
  6. It was a while ago mate, think it was from one of the many NPTC assessors that we use.......but we all know how they like to gossip !
  7. I did hear thay Silky saws are banned at Kew because of the many accidents.......anyone else hear this ??
  8. No, never....Prob will now though ! touch-wood. Have had some nasty cuts with Silky-Saws though!! Very easy to get complacent with the little devils !
  9. I started watching half way through. Was the tree in a conservation area or was it TPO'd ? It was in a back garden and was not very visible from the road, so if it was TPO'd I'd be surprised! The T/O should have been brave enough to recommend a fell and re-plant. Poor thing should be put down.
  10. Cheers guys! I booked the day off today (never work on your B'day at the council!) Off out tomorrow night for a few beers, as I've got a Beech to dismantle tomorrow (there's dedication!)
  11. Butchered tree....Butchered tree officer more like. Jesus!
  12. It is hard work. Tech Cert should be level 4, RFS Cert should be level 3. Dont worry about practical experience as that wont effect you. Good-luck !
  13. Nice one!! If I was you I'd of done the reduction while you were putting that red rope up there !
  14. As I understand heave – it will only occur if the tree is older than the property and that property was built on desiccated ground (e.g. in a drought) It takes these two factors in order to produce heave, if you dont have them, you wont get heave.
  15. Excellent job! And well done for saving the tree. Bet it gave you a warm feeling when you went to bed that night..
  16. Cheers guys, bless you all! Nicon D80 with a 18-135. You may have seen this one before but I'll post it again. It was taken last winter as I was getting ready to go into work.....
  17. Went to Prescott Hill Climb today. The racing was delayed for an hour because the fog was so bad. I saw this shot and couldn't resist myself...
  18. I've been so stressed of over exams, even eaten fish and drank mineral water all week on the run-up to them in the hope my brain might work a little better!....def an arborist.
  19. Something not to big, not to commercial, camping, good food, good music and good company.
  20. I had to pull off the job today, had a tooth thats been driving me mad all week, the pain got tooo much to stand! the dentist said it would cost £800 for a root filling and a crown! ...... I had it pulled out, now I have a hole in my gob the size of that hollow Beech!
  21. No.....some little wan@ers set fire to it, got called out in the middle of the night by the fire brigade!
  22. I'll tell you the story..... 15 months ago there were 6 healthy Beech trees growing in a tight circle, having one 'shared crown' One of the Beech trees has always had a large, open cavity and was very hollow. One summer some little Bugger kindly lit several fires inside the tree (I was called out in the middle of the night by the fire brigade!) Anyhow, I didn't want to fell just the one tree as all 6 were growing as 'one crown', felling just the one would open the othere to wind exposure and poss. failure. So I came to the decision to cable-brace it to two other Beech trees, thus putting a control measure. However, the site is right next to a river and has recently suffered many floods (so much so that 4 out of the 6 trees have died this summer. So the decision was made to fell and re-plant. I'm going to try and save the last healthy tree as it has good butress formation and may be able to withstand the wind now it has been exposed. Hope that helps....
